Are you glad that the trade for Pau Gasol fell through?

I was upset the trade fell through, and i have no love for the NBA as an organization, but I'm over my disappointment. Obviously i think that Nene and Gasol, with pat and chuck backing them up, would have given us a contending front court. With Lowry playing like and allstar, and assuming Martin and Lee rounded into form, I would have picked us as the 4 seed (at worst) in the west.

That said, the trade doesn't really put us where we need to be if we can't sign Nene, so i look at the whole thing as one big package that was never delivered.

I think we can salvage the unfortunate situation by making sure we don't let the trade deadline expire without trading some of our vets for draft picks, or young players of at least lowry, lee, and patterson's stature. To the extent we can find a way to get a top 5 pick, without giving up Lowry, i would consider that real progress.

and who knows; maybe we finish in the lotto and get lucky at the drawing. Maybe we package a guy like Dragic, Bud, Scola, and our Knicks pick for a top 5 pick. It is not out of the rhelm of possibility that we end up with two top 7 picks. IN MOREY WE TRUST!

His ppg is only dropping because he's not taking as many shots because Kobe is taking 40 shots a game. His efficiency has stayed exactly the same.

Then let me tell you what you already know efficient players are not always the best players.

I said I have higher standards and without a dominant Center he can't actually do nothing. He played better now that Bynum is resurrected.

Before he was averaging 14 points 8 rbs as the second best player this season.

We need superstar or at least tough minded stars that do not coast one single game. Gasol did nothing in the playoffs last year.

We would have upgraded starting 4, starting 5, backup 4 and backup 5, offensively and defensively We would have downgraded backup 1 and broke even at starting 2. This is a dumb question.

Yeah. It would've solved the depth problem, though.

    Nene - Hayes
    Gasol - Patterson
    Morris - Parsons
    Lee - Budinger
    Lowry - Dragic

Next year, we'd be even bigger with Motiejunas.

I was a vehement opposer of the trade but I can see now that Morey was right. Martin is overpaid and just pads his stats on a bad team. Scola's incredibly one-dimensional. Great guys but not basketball players.

With the exception of maybe Rasheed, that team didn't have all-stars UNTIL THEY WON A CHAMPIONSHIP! You see, winning raises the perceived value of players. That's the whole premise that Morey operates under. In fact, Billups, Ben Wallace, Rip Hamilton, Prince, etc. were all either undervalued guys or drafted later than "stars" are usually drafted. Exactly what Morey is trying to do. Face it, nobody wants to play here willingly and one season of "tanking" is not going to propel this team to the promised land, which is what a lot of people seem to think.

According to PER, Gasol is still playing at an All-Star level so far this season. According to +/-, Gasol is a defensive SUPERSTAR right now, and the Lakers are fall apart whenever he's not on the floor.

Gasol's ppg is down because he's pretty much the third option on that Lakers team, with Kobe still being Kobe, and Bynum's emergence. His scoring efficiency and all-around game are still good. The Rockets would've definitely been better off with him and Nene manning the front court.

Without Bynum he played not well...... I have observed closely. He is just doin his thing now that he has his dominant man down low. NeNe is no Bynum and we don't have Kobe.
