Yeah, but he took them to the playoffs by himself. Memphis got blown out of the playoffs and they had Marc Gasol, Battier, Z-Bo and Conley. I'm pretty sure TD would have been blown out if he had been playing with an old Damon Stoudemire as his 3rd best player.

Fair enough.... He was a better player when he was younger.....
Shows the PF position is not the most important one....
Would still go for the Center and PF, arguably the SG before picking a good PF..... unless is god shooter Nowitzki....call me back when Gasol can shoot fadeaways and threes consistently then I can ignore his soft game

Tom thibs has been going with Asik and Gibson down the stretch and those guys will be getting paid soon...how about a trade for Noah?

Noah, Korver for Dalembart, Martin, and Hill. then we sign Greg smith.

For them, that would open up some mins for those bigs. And a trio of deng, Martin, and Rip would be trouble. I could see that team winning it all.

No. The more time goes by, I am that much more disgusted that the trade fell through.

Could you please shed some insight on how you can always complain about how all Morey ever got us was "bottom level talent"...and then scoff at the idea of trading two bottom level talents for a perennial All-Star?

Its not that the PF is least important, its that the PF position has the most amount of good players in the league. Every team basically has 1 or 2 decent PFs on the roster. On our team alone we have Scola, Hill, PP, D-Mo, and that's with Hayes leaving via free agency. Even MM played as a PF in college.

Hmmm..... that's true ....still make good PFs expendable
I don't know but I just think the Gasol now is just a marginal upgrade at the PF position and only a good one at C....
Actually it's not Gasol that I worry the most, it's NeNe....guy's just not bringing it on the statsheets of course if we can pry him away from Denver....that is a big IF because he's one of the guys that never leave the place.

I'd almost prefer to the team to tank than go that route. Again, if it were 22-28 year old Gasol on a smaller contract, definitely would go for it.

But at 18 million with a player who is showing signs of decline, while he was never an outstanding #1 to begin with in his career. I'd be weary.

Let me break it down for most of you on here...

Look at past championship winning teams, each had a SUPERSTAR player outside of the Pistons, but that team had 4 all-stars on it as well as a strong bench with Mike James and Okur.

That roster of lowry, lee, bud, nene, gasol, STILL has NO SUPERSTARS! You don't pay big money for supporting men and then find your superstar to lead them later, it does not work like that. You find your superstar FIRST, and then find your Robins (with the exception being if you are a hot free agent spot and/or a superstar wants to play for you already).

How would that roster attract a star player to join it? That roster is MAXED OUT in terms of potential, clearly. You have a 31 year old DECLINING player, and then 29 year old player.

Morey's job is to find a superstar

It's really hard to find one....it's not getting easier day by day.
It's debatable on Chris Bosh....heck even Chris Bosh is no superstar....he is closer than Gasol

I hate Pau Gasol with a passion, but there is no doubt that a

    Kyle Lowry
    Courtney Lee
    Chandler Parsons
    Nene
    Pau Gasol

lineup, not to mention other moves that Daryl might have made, would have been great fun to watch. I wish it would have happened just for the sake of seeing what else Daryl had planned.

I wonder If he had a deal in place for a really nice SG/SF...

I think Nene would play Center and Gasol PF.

It would depend on the matchup.

If we play Dwight, I want Nene guarding him.
If we play the Mavs or the Knicks, I want Nene on Dirk and Amare, with Pau covering Haywood and Chandler.

This sums up all that is wrong with this board.

Basketball is a team sport, 5 above average guys will give you more consistency than 4 scrubs and a "SUPERSTAR" as you put it.

Doesn't matter who puts the ball through the basket, you still get the same amount of points whether you are Kyle Lowry or CP3.

Because if ur stockpiling assets to land a franchise player and if you thought Gasol's a franchise player after disappearing in last years playoff you're incompetent

I would have absolutely no problem calling Kyle a superstar if he keeps his PER that high for a whole season, which is pretty unlikely.

My point was Pau Gasol has been a top 15 ish player for a very long time without any drop in production and we missed out severely by not landing him. HE IS NOT ON THE DECLINE.
