I'm kind of dreading it starting next week. My wife is in her first year of teaching so both her and the kids will be home. In the house we're renting, my office is the dining room with no way to separate from the rest of the house.

Other than that, especially with my job and the flexibility it gives me, I'm way more productive at work and home.

The company I work for and my team are all pretty close... it doesn't hurt that there is a bar right across the street we always drink at.

I work with a small team at a satelite office that I am close with. The other staff members at our main facility and boss I am not that close to. They would add me on facebook but I just ignore the request. I dont want them to know what I do on my free time.

Lol. The last line is key here. We all have all kinds of **** going on in our personal lives; divorce, kids, child custody battles, addictions, problems with sick parents, financial issues, etc. In a professional job most people keep this stuff to themselves and for the most part things at the office go smoothly. But once you get to be friends and you see these things it's hard to see people the same way afterwards.

It's like the cautionary tale of not getting wasted at the company Christmas party and making a fool out of yourself or not posting keg stand pictures on social media for everyone to see. It breaks up your professional image and people do not respect you as much.

I hung out with coworkers when I was in teen/college jobs no way in hell now.

Outside of a select few, I leave work at work. I don't want to mix my personal life with everyone. There are about a group of 3 of us that are really close. Otherwise, nope.

Some of my oldest and best friends are people I've met at work.

Then again, I've almost always worked in hospitals, and you have to be pretty tight to function as a group.

    Office people are weirdos.

You go out to eat anywhere on a week night, and I guarantee you the loudest table in the place will be the table full of teachers. Especially elementary teachers. That will be the table that shuts the place down.

On occasion I hang out with them during company sponsored happy hours but that's about it. I'm not against being friends but with a 17 month child, I hardly have time to even hang out with my friends in my circle let alone co-workers. But in the past, yeah i made plenty of friends during work that I would hang out with on weekends, just depends who they are. It's usually just a few people, not like a whole department hanging out on the weekends like a cliche.

I once worked at a place that was run very poorly and the work environment was like that of a middle school science class. Completely out of control and wacky. People played card games while others were on their computer playing online video games during the day. Nerf Footballs randomly flew around and hit you in the head. Being in sales and working commission, this was unacceptable to me so I refused to participate. In about 1.5 years the company got bought out and about 80% got fired or quit once new management came.

Not really any more. The guy I hung out with the most is now my boss, so it's a different vibe now. I like a lot of my co-workers, but have no desire really to see them outside of work as it reminds me of work. I don't enjoy my job enough to have to be reminded of it outside of the office. I don't even like going to lunch with them because inevitably it just turns into gossip or b****ing about work.

My situation pretty much. Don't really care for the firm sponsored happy hours either.
