My rep button just exploded from trying to rep grammar nazi everyone in this thread Also when did the substitution of "have" to "of" happen?? Suddenly last year everyone started saying "should of" instead of "should have." Caught me by surprise. Back in my school days it was "wanna, gonna, etc."
I am a really old literature major. I have been writing for the stage and publication (usually for no pay, however) since I was in my late 20's. The key is how is your casual way of writing impacting your message. If you are making a pithy comment about Patrick Patterson on ClutchFans, you probably can take a few liberties with spelling and grammar. If you want to be taken more seriously then write with more attention. If you bring textspeakish writing to any kind of public forum, then your ideas are likely to be dismissed and people are going to ignore your (perhaps very on-point) content. As far as grammar Nazis go...I can go either way (please feel free to correct my spelling and grammar, I can use the reminder). Sometimes a GN is being genuinely helpful...sometimes they are just being a anal fluid expression. Generally, if I can understand you....I won't correct your grammar or spelling...unless we work or study together and something is going out with my name.
