No. This is not a playoff team, yet the young players sit in favor of Battier and Miller. It just feels pointless. I know that's just RA trying to win as many games as possible, but you've got to adjust your priorities at some point.
No, not as a whole. I have enjoyed some things about it, such as watching Martin curbstomp crappy teams, Hayes' breakout, Patterson. But poor PG play, terrible team defense, and our lack of size, and above all the losses, makes it a season I won't think back on fondly.
I don't like how the season has gone but I always enjoy seeing my Rockets play so I'm not sure how to answer.
A few points: 1) I think a lot of opinions will change after the trade deadline, especially if we shorten the rotation (2 for 1's, 3 for 1's) and we get to see more of T-Will, which could/would help me enjoy the season more, but as of now this has been an annoyance of mine. 2) Although I don't like to see losing, my biggest problem with my season tickets has been the drop in perks at the games. The parties aren't what they were a few years ago, nor are the gifts given to season ticket holders. I buy season tickets because I love the Rockets, but now that I've finished putting myself through college, I have some new big bills to pay and I could be putting that money toward some other things. There are also some little things at the games that have gotten on my nerves, but nothing I can't handle. 3) I have been frustrated with the way RA has handled the team. I've always loved RA as a coach, but lately I've grown to dislike him. Yes, I'd like to see some younger players on the court, but last night was a perfect example. Why leave AB out there when he's stinking it up? I want to blame AB for the loss, but I actually blame RA because he left AB out there. The other thing that drives me insane is his inability to draw up a decent play out of a timeout. I thought this was basic for a coach, especially one that's been in the league as long as him. 4) Obviously I would love to see some trades, but I understand Morey is probably waiting for the right time (closer to the deadline) and the right players (once again, they usually become available closer to the deadline) before he makes his move(s). I can't really complain about this, but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't affected my enjoyment of the season just a little. 5) The loss of Yao (again). This was almost expected, but I think most people thought he would be a least a little bit more durable with his limited minutes. I guess we were all wrong in that respect. 6) I don't really know where I stand on this. The way we treat our players when it comes to extending their contracts. I like that we don't usually overpay, but I dislike how it can/does give us a negative image within the league. I can see positives and negatives coming from that. 7) I HATE how we are consistently a mediocre team. We are almost always on the verge of the playoffs, thus ending up with a late lottery pick. I wish we could either make the playoffs, even as the 8th seed, or just play our younger players more and take a few extra losses, even if it only moves us up a few picks. 8) Our failure to execute at the end of games (last night being a perfect example) also gets on my nerves. If a team like Minnesota can run a simple pick and roll to get an open shot, why can't we? Is it because it's too difficult for our offense, or just because we can't play defense? Maybe it's a little bit of both? 9) Our stubborness at times on offense. If you're not hitting from the outside, it's ok to take the ball to the basket or even pump fake, take a couple of dribbles, and shoot a mid range jumper, or even pass to a teammate for a possible layup when/if his man comes out on you. Once again, last night was a perfect example. I believe at one point we took 5-6 three pointers in a row....I don't think we made a single one. We need more players that are willing to drive to the basket and draw fouls. I would almost like a player that's not a great three point shooter, and knows it, so he plays within his limits and doesn't hamper the team. Carmelo is a great example of this, although I'm not a big fan of him myself. 10) Bottom line...I'm debating renewing my season tickets. Not because we've been bad and have been losing this season, but there just seems to be so many things that could be fixed or at least improved upon that seem to have been basically ignored. This may all change after the trade deadline, but if I'm asked where I stand right now, this is it. I'll always be a die hard fan, but like I said earlier, I have better things to put my money towards right now. I may just downgrade my seats just so I can keep my streak going. Pugs
Yes, but it's been frustrating. I still think we have a lot of good players, and would rather us improve through trades than blowing up the team and diving into lottery purgatory.
Yeah I like talking about building phases and teams. Not very exciting the games themselves this year as years past, but its still fun to watch.
This year has probably the been the least interested i have ever been in the Rockets... I still watch the games, but just dont watch with the same emotion than in the past.
I think I would enjoy it a lot more if I had some optimism for the future. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much help coming. Now if they allowed TWill to get time on the court, I might enjoy it more. I'm really high on that guy, but he's still waiting for his opportunity -- which is worrisome.
I have been reduced to checking the forum daily to see if any trades are close to happening. What we have isn't working and there's not much to be optimistic about. My biggest fear is that we'll get some kind of trade for trading sake, and that's it. (Anthony Randolph or some garbage like that) But at the end of the day, I don't feel that Morey has a lot to work with with Yao's injury, AB's massive implosion, and generally undervalued abroad and overvalued locally personnel. On the plus side, my productivity at work has skyrocketed.
I saw this product coming into being a year ago. While other teams got better, we went for role-players galore. This is the result.
Obviously not because of how the season is going, but also, when watching our guys play we just seem like the most unexciting team to watch. We never get any exciting jump out of your seat plays like the Clippers, Lakers, Heat.. and pretty much the majority of the league does with there ally-oops, huge dunks, crossovers, and all of that. We are just.. well.. boring.
How about between Yes and No? I am still enjoying to watch the games, just do not care their win or lose because I know they will not go anywhere this year.
Is it bad that I root for us to win, but I don't mind if we lose (as long as we don't make fools of ourselves in the process, like last night) since it helps us get a better draft pick? Pugs
