Not a bad speech. 538 live blogging noted several rhetorical techniques that Trump and/or his team haven't used before, and the language level was much higher than his stump speeches. I liked the notes of infrastructure and him saying something classy about the outgoing president.

Am surprised he still had such a bleak view of America though. And his view of inner cities is not supported by data, overall. Most cities have thrived over the last 15 or so years, which it's the suburbs that are falling apart and concentrating most poor people now. Gentrification is steamrolling most inner cities.

But whatever, that's a small detail overall. I guess I was just hoping for something a little more positive, but this is probably honestly how he sees things. This is probably as positive as it gets with him.

OK, you convinced me. Your internet tough guy status is safe. I will let you get the last word (I am sure I will be impressed).

His speech was fine as far as style is concerned.

He will be fine in that regard.

His view of America is really concerning, as he does not have a very high opinion of America and he is now President.

His view on the health of large cities is absurd, urban areas have done very well over the last decade; the suburbs are what is struggling.

Good observations. I think he had to take a dire look at how things are. Otherwise, why would a change to him be needed? The more dire he can paint the picture, the more license he has to make changes (good or bad). And if he breaks something in the process, he justifies it because it was so dire. And blames it on others.

So basically he read a speech that he had no part in writing. Congrats Trump.

There were claims made previously he was very involved in the writing of his speech. Even a tweet showing a picture of him writing it. Course, the pad of paper in front of him was blank, and the Sharpie he had still had the cap on. Poor staging on his handlers' part.

Didn't hear entire speech. Was Hillary not mentioned? What about Hillary supporters... those American's that did not vote for him? I reckon its not required, and maybe not even expected, but seems to me a certain amount of graciousness and attempt to reach out to those that didn't vote for you would always be appropriate.

There is nothing of precedent in regards to the entiriety of Trump's 70 year life in the form of his writing that makes me believe he had any part in writing that speech. The only significant work I know from him is the Art of the Deal which was written by a ghost writer who probably spent the most alone one on one time minus his immediate family with Trump over a span of a year doing these interviews to write the book and even he stated that he wouldn't be surprised if Trump in his entire life has never read a book front to back cover. I've never seen writing from Trump that exceeds the level of a middle schooler.

It's so idiotic and obvious that this type of **** helps Trump to the point where it has to be a false flag?
Sigh. I think the more likely explination is that there actually are people this stupid.

A peaceful and gracious transition of power, with the previous President, VP, and the candidate that lost (with respective spouses) in attendance. This all gets ignored by the incoming party in power. Instead, the inevitable few minor instances of idiots. That will be the focus of the new administration and supporters. It will "help" him.

There are. Plenty. When emotion ride hide, especially under the control of hatred, you are going to act stupid. So, yes, it's not uncommon that people are that stupid.

The wave of anti-government and science and you know what else over the last few years is very much the same. Hatred based + delusion = pretty common that people will act and behave in stupid way. Maybe not through violence, but through other ways. Everyone is somewhat delusional, but hatred bring you to a special place of blindness and there is very little chance of escaping it until you rid yourself of such hate.

This is just what the left do when they don't get their way. We've seen it far too many times over the last few years. This was inevitable because they really are just that stupid.
