Maybe in another life time I'll be able to say, BORN RAISED HOUSTON TEXAS! But for this life time, What a great town for the Rockets!
I live just around the corner from Garden Oaks Elementary. It has changed quite a bit since you went there! So has the neighborhood with tons of big, new houses. I live in one of the older homes (built in '48).

So did we. 713 Garden Oaks Blvd-- between the school and Oak Forest Boulevard. I remember throwing paper airplanes out of an upstairs windown in the midst of Hurricane Carla. What a great neighborhood to grow up in. I went to school there through the 4th grade (1963-64). Back in 1992 or so I did a nostalgia tour. I wrote to all the "residents" of my ex-homes and told them I'd be coming to town. I boldly asked if I could poke around the house for a few minutes. Two out of three said yes; the third spoke Spanish only and we could never reach an understanding. While at the Garden Oaks house, my mom and I strolled down to the elementary school and walked the halls and the classrooms and the gym and the cafeteria and the playground. We first poked our heads in the school office to ask permission and chatted for a few minutes with the school secretary. As I recall it was early to mid-June and I had just missed my second-grade teacher (Mrs. Martin-- 1961-62 --a favorite) by less than five minutes. I'm lucky that the places of my youth call up such SWEET memories...
