It's not how you start, but it's how you finish. IMO, those who give up on the Rockets this early in the season are not true Rockets fans. These are true Choke city fans. When we win, they would jump on and act as if they were there with us all a long. When we lose, they lose hope and act as if the sky was falling and the season is over. Haven't some of you learned from Choke city yet? It's embarrasing to be associated with such fickle Rocket fans.

Oh did I say we have ONLY 61 games remaining!??

Are we talking Lottery Position? If we are, then I say 5th or 6th.

If we are talking playoff, then you guys better realize that as long as Yao is the first option offensivly then this team will never sniff the playoffs.

Remember how the Rockets finished last season under Jeff Van Gundy...

Lets see what they do the rest of december. It will make or break our season (in terms of making the playoffs). If we can go 7-2 or 8-1 (very highly likely) then we will be sitting at 16-14 or 17-13. that should put us within 2 games of the 8th playoff seed (we are only 3.5 games back as it stands now). If we go 32-20 the rest of the way that gives us around 48 wins. That WILL get us into the playoffs.

The Lakers will come down and I am still not sold on the Nuggets. If we can play well for the rest of this month i think we can get a 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs. Anything higher than that seems unrealistic with this current team.

Would you guys be a potential lottery team.. or just barely make it into the playoffs, with no hope against the better teams (Dallas, San Antonio, Sacromento..)? I think we should (I'm asking for it, aren't I?) play out the season, and if we have a chance at the 8th seed, let it pass so we can get a good draft prospect. Contrary, we could make the playoffs, and do what Houston does best, produce miracles :p . Thoughts?

You are easily the Clutchfan of the month of December (even with more than 2 weeks more to go). Closely followed by thecabbage and then DoD.

There is a consistent sense of rational and high IQ behind the majority of the post of these fellas in that last 2 weeks and even more.

    THE BEST POST EVER! :)

You'll probably find a reason to hate me sooner or later, I've been know as a smartass(in it's worst meaning), as much as I try very hard not to be one. :)

I'd like to thank all the fans who supported me in the month of December, I did this for you. I'd also like to thank all my critics, for idiotically disagreeing with me. It is from you I draw my passion. Also, I have to give props to thecabbage and DoD for putting up a good fight. I just had much more time to kill than you guys. A special thanks also goes out to the many young men and women serving in Iraq, for without you guys hurting and dying and freezing in sand, we would.......um.........there wouldn't be ..... uh..... I mean ........... like ..........ummmm........ yeah, come home soon and stay safe for the holidays. Oh yes, for the rox fans in the military in Iraq, post on this board as soon as you find any shooters, cuz we can't find them in houston.

I guess I'm just a dumbass....I'm just not all that impressed with Denver or the Lakers. 36-25 here on out gets us to 45-37. I can see the 8th seed...but only if we take care of business over the next 5 games. Getting our mental toughness and shooting rhythm back must happen soon.

    GATER,

I hope we'll win more than 45 games. I would call for a coaching change if we only won 45. Unless of course JVG does something amazing in playoffs.

I don't know about Denver, but I see the Lakers having the same problems as us. I feel it's just a matter of time for them to click. With Vlade back, Kobe is just too good for them to miss the playoffs.

I once thought we would make the playoffs until it has been exposed that we have no outside shooting, and no inside rebounding to speak of.

No we are not going to make the playoffs, simply put there are at least 8 better teams that will finish ahead of the Rockets.

The sure sign is that we depend on Yao and TMac having monster games to win-

That is not going to happen often enough because Yao is too inconsistent and TMac is easily double and triple teamed due to all of the above.

Face it, as this team looks there is not anyone past Yao and TMac who are more than end of bench backups.

So until we change the supporting cast we are stuck.

40-45 wins sounds like a good finish with the current players.
The only thing that could change this is a miracle player move or two.

    Clove -
First, I never thought the Rox were a 50 win team. If you did, you heavily discounted 9 new players, Sura's injury, going to China, and a brutal opening 6 sixs' schedule. Secondly, the Nuggets are currently #8 at 0.600 which translates to 49 wins. However, the Nugz have played 13 home games and 7 away games (3w-4l).

Given the power in the WC, I just don't see the 7th and 8th seeds as being close to 50 win teams this season. What makes this season different is we used to speak of the top 4 spots as "locks". This season, the "locks" have extended to 6. That IMO distances those not in the top 6 spots from a W-L standpoint.

All I'm saying is that I have not given up hope and I'm using the next 5 games as a guide to whether we can get our act together. Hey, 36-25 isn't that bad, is it? :)

Thank goodness someone could tell me how it works. For so many years, I've wondered and wondered. Oh, the wisdom that has now been imparted. I feel much relieved that once we gel in the next couple of months, Van Gundy will become a better offensive coach and Mo Taylor will become a dynamo low post defender and rebounder for the first time in his career. It's all so clear now.

That sucks that not blindly thinking we'll make the playoffs just cause means I'm not a fan. Darn it! I guess if I don't watch the games or follow the team or maybe pluck my eyes and ears out, I could be more apt to believe that we're the top team in the league every single season and are always a title contender.

There's the ticket! Reality has no place in fandom!

    Currently tied for 11th.

This team has alot to do in order to be in the top 5. Unfortunately, I don't see resolve because of JVG's lousy boring offense. Perhaps if we had more athletic players (excluding T-Mac and Sura), our record would be improved.

I hope we make the play-offs, but feel that this team will underacheive.

I predict we just miss the cut. I hope I'm wrong.

From what I have seen of the Rockets so far, they are mediocre basketball team that doesn't play smart or hard.

While I would love to see them turn things around and play smarter and harder, I’m not holding out any hopes.

As for making the playoffs, I doubt it. And if they don’t play any more inspired than they do right now, who cares if they are first round fodder for an actual basketball team.

Clove - Give whatever you're taking to the players. The stuff has to make them jump higher and run faster. Dude you are tripping.

No it's not. I'd prefer 42-19 though. Believe.
