We should be, b/c this team isn't going to do SH@T. Lets just get it over with. The question is, any franchise player available in this year's draft???????????
Isn't Morey in a contract year himself? Are his decisions being limited from higher up in case they opt for another direction at GM?
They've known it for a while, once the Gasol trade fell through I imagine Les got on board. Dalembert is a trade & release asset.
No need for conspiracy theories - there's a simpler, much more robust explanation: we're trying unsuccessfully to win. Scola and Martin haven't been traded and are still seeing significant minutes. We signed Dalembert and are playing him a bunch. Morris is on the D-League squad instead of playing 30 minutes a night. If we're trying to tank, we're doing a bad job of it. Besides, this is consistent with Les's history as an owner. It's much more likely that we're simply a mediocre team who's played a really tough schedule. No need to worry - our middle-of-the-pack status will be safe for years and years to come!
I'm not sure the intent matters at this point. I don't think this team, a currently coached and constructed, has the capacity to control it's own destiny. Basically, they are tanking on purpose or they are tanking on accident.
I think the Rockets hired Mchale bc we were going after Nene and Gasol. They prob felt his coaching style would fit with a legit frontcourt. The backup plan was to tank if they could not acquire those two. Mchale would be good for this as well bc he is basically a puppet. I think he was the best coach for our situation.
That may be the case, exactly... and I've wanted the Rockets to take a step back and develop young guys and get a draft pick. That is still my hope. But there's nothing to suggest they are tanking on purpose. They tried to get Gasol/Nene. They signed Dalembert. They sent their top rookie to the D-League. They have played Lowry-Martin-Scola heavy minutes. This is the best they got, guys. Don't get me wrong -- this is no defense of anyone. I just don't think this is some master plan, that they're currently losing on purpose. The results, with this schedule, were expected.
Agreed with that, but do you believe they expected the lack of effort and the opening up of a big can of quit? DD
We're not tanking on purpose......yet. The truth is we got the wind totally knocked out of us with the failed trade and Dally was just a shot in the dark, essentially a 1-year expiring contract that should be easy to trade if our season turns up, while at the same time if we suck, we can get out of his deal in one year and still play around in free agency. Dally was the leftovers, literally a chance at being better. It still might turn out that way but I doubt if it turns out that we will be significantly better than last season. We are looking at a top end of last year's team and who knows how bad we really could be. I suspect that if no deal materializes for us to get Dwight and Dwill that reality will finally slap Les in the face and he will let Morey tear it down and rebuild on the fly with the lottery and free agency.
We are tanking because they aren't playing dally. He was doing a great job at center but they say he is not in game shape. So they let Scola guard the 5. Yep. We're tanking. You just don't say it out loud. You just remind stern during the lotto and send your les's sick relative to rep the team during the lotto.
Do I believe the Rockets front office and/or coaching staff expected a lack of effort and the "opening up of a big can of quit?" No, most definitely not.
Hate to say it but I think the "quit" is coming from Martin. Lowry and Scola aren't quitters. After that, most of the bench players are guys out there scrapping around trying to make themselves look good and get more minutes. Martin and Hill...look like they've quit to me.
