I have not read everyone's post but I would like to add that Everyone here and I mean everyone knows T-mac needs to attack the basket more. Hell we have been saying it for years.. I hate how his FTA is kinda low compared to other so called superstars. Also I hate how his FT % SUCKS compared to other so called superstars. The fact of the matter is you need determination, a sense of aggresiveness, ala Killer instinct to continue to attack the basket night in and night out. Maybe it's because he soft, injured, lazy, scared, whatever the reason maybe there is nothing we can say or do that will change him. That's just who he is.

The only reason why he has a respectable FG% is because they combine points in the paint with outside FG shots. You take away his FG% in the paint and this man Sucks!!!

Not true. McGrady's FG% outside the paint is probably better than LeBron's and Wade's.

This year it probably is. Past years I'm not so sure.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't, actually. I'll look it up.

I don't think there has been a topic where the GARM has been so polarized since the good old Franchise days. Absolutely incredible.

We don't stack up as well in terms of talent w/o t-mac, that is without question. But we do move the ball better w/o him on the court and everybody is in rhythm because they get the touches on offense.

Touches are VERY important for every player. It puts incredible pressure on players to make shots when the first time they get the ball to shoot or make a decision only 2-3 times a quarter. That's why the cavs are struggling with Lebron, and on the flip side, the lack of one guy dominating the ball is why Portland is playing so well. The Jazz was also doing the same thing last year when they beat us in the playoffs.

    According to 82games.com...

T-Mac this year- .454% EFG on jumpers.
T-Mac last year- .450% EFG on jumpers

Kobe this year- .446% EFG on jumpers
Kobe last year- .467% EFG on jumpers

LeBron this year- .381% EFG on jumpers
LeBron last year- .394% EFG on jumpers

Wade this year- .387% EFG on jumpers
Wade last year- .403% EFG on jumpers

    So please...just stop.

Using NBA hot spots data, I looked out FG's attempted and FG% on shots outside the paint:

    Code:
               [B]%outside FG% outside[/B]
    T-Mac 61% 40.3%
    LeBron 43% 32.4%
    Kobe 57% 37.2%
    Wade 40% 38.6%

McGrady's FG% outside the paint has actually been very good compared to the 3 elite wing players of our time. He just happens to shoot a greater proportion of them, which hurts his overall FG%. Also, he doesn't get to the free throw line as much (he shies away from contact), and when he gets there he has a poor FT%. As far as scoring, that's basically the difference.

I don't get it. How could his jumper % be greater than his fg%? Not disrespecting just trying to understand.

On the Hot Zones T-Mac has one cold zone. And thats 0 for 2 from the left corner on 3 pointers.

He has a hot spot at the top of the key hitting on 16 of 32. He is 52% from shots around the basket. Top of the Key 3 pointers he is 38%.

Last 5 games you can see because of his injury, shooting a lot more jumpers, and he has some more cold spots. He has been hot from left wing 3's, but hasnt hit any from the rest of the 3 line(0 for 6)

Drive the lane, no foul, shot misses. Thats one of the reason he was shooting from teh outside a bit more. He would drive and not get any calls when he was fouled. Plus there were alot of times he would get a good layup and it would just bounce out.

Think about the percentage of drives that result in and 1. Against the percentage of drives that result in shooting 2. He got many fouls called on his jumpshot also.

EFG% is not regular FG%...I forget what it includes, but it is a great and convenient gauge of how good a jumpshooter a player is. But bottom line is the guy is right on par with Kobe as a jumpshooter and WAY better of a jumpshooter than Wade or Bron.

From watching LeBron play it always seems his jumpshot doesnt go in too often. I thought it was no-brainer that T-Mac was a better shooter.

Lebron scores on 66% of his drives. Now, I know that some of that is he usually gets the call when he DOES get fouled so that shot doesnt count. T-Mac gets fouled on drives alot and many do not get called.

    efg% = (FGM + 0.5*3FGM) / FGA

It gives extra credit for made 3's.

    also beating the dead horse

i still refuse to belive we do anything different style wise then what JVG instilled into the team

yao looked for cutters the first day of nba life in his games here

everyone was too bored/lazy to cut, vs scola's inability to shoot so he makes it up with running around wildly

Great information. This is why we have the perception that T-Mac takes bad shots. He may be a better jump shooter than those guys, but he drives less. Which has been one of my primary points all along. When he settles for jumpers he is not as effective and the team does not function as well. It is beating a dead horse, however. I think most every Rocket fan wants more drives out of McGrady.

I think McGrady doesn't get the calls as much, because he tries to evade the contact more. The other guys invite the contact. Not a slam on T-Mac just an observation. He also does not shoot FTs very well, so maybe avoiding the contact to make the layup is a better idea for him.

I know we have beat the tar out of this horse. The rox are playing better right now which is good. I always expected the team to at least beat the sorry teams. When tracy wasn't hurt, he got good looks mid-range and the rox played well. Tracy has been out, rafer, scola, brooks, and wells have stepped up.

I personall think scola should start to give the team that balance early. I also would like to sign P.J. Brown to pair him with scola. I think the team should explore trading Snyder and a combo of either francis or james, but not both. Come playoff time, the rox are going to need a pj brown type veteran to make some midrange type of shots along with scola. Out of thenext 3games, they should win at least 2.

Rockets are playing better as a team without TMac, but it's against crappy competition for the most part.

I think TMac gets the point that he can't stagnate the offense when he comes back. If he hasn't then Rafer's interview with Bill and Matt after the Knicks game should let him know how the rest of the team probably feels. We'll see how TMac reacts once he steps back out on the court.

They've got another PF that can hit that mid-range shot, Landry. Hopefully, Adelman will give him his shot at some point like he did Brooks. Unlike JVG, RA seems willing to develop young guys by playing them, not brow-beating them..
