If the Rockets are going to sign Deke, I assume it would only be for one year. So, what difference does it make to sign him now or later on in the season? Is it still going to cost the same or less? The Rockets are paying the luxury tax anyways. Deke's contract would only counting towards this year and not later, and so are Harris' and Strawberry's contracts, I believe. Wafer is a non-guaranteed contract so it won't hurt if he is cut. My point is why cut the roster down to 13 or 14 players when they're still going to pay guys like Harris or Strawberry to do nothing. At least give one of them a chance and they can still sign Deke if they want.
How often do we ever play all 12 of our active players in a game (that's not a preseason game)? A lot of games where we were rolling on all cylinders, only 8 players would play the whole game. I'm not concerned about having a small roster at all. What's Von Wafer, D.J. Strawberry, or Marcus Campbell going to do if one of our role-players get injured? Are they going to change our championship outlook? Since when have we ever been focused on the 13th and 14th man of our roster to begin with? This thread fails.
I think our starting lineups depends on who we're facing. Like for example, if we're facing the Suns, i would want Artest to guard Staudamire, he's strong enough to good enough to guard him. Plus this will allow Battier to start too. So it's Yao vs Shaq, Staudamire vs Artest, Battier vs Grant Hill, Tmac vs Raja, and Nash vs Rafer. It is MUCH better than starting Scola at PF because i think he wouldn't be able to guard Staudamire. And I think Artest is good enough to guard Duncan and Dirk. He is such a good defender that a little short in height wouldn't have really matter. And i don't mind starting Landry either because Landry with his athleticism can rebound MUCH better than Scola and his quickness allow him to defend better...plus he now has a jump shot. Also he dunks much quicker and finish much quicker than Scola. The only difference is that Scola has size and hustle better and i guess higher basketball IQ. But i wouldn't be surprised if Adelman start Landry and had Scola coming off the bench playing Center.
Ideally, I'd start the season with this 14-man depth chart: PG: Alston Brooks Francis SG: McGrady Barry Wafer SF: Artest Battier Harris PF: Scola Landry Hayes C: Yao Dorsey Get rid of Head (pick, trade exception?) and Strawberry (cut) and sign Deke ASAP (vet min).
No no no. I remember last season Adelman tried to put Harris at 3 and it was a disaster. I mean I like this guy but he is a warrior inside, he fights for rebounds, he is hustle guy. His outside shot is not very good so teams are gonna leave him open and for me it is just a lack of offense. As I said, he is solid at 4 spot but he probably won't make the rotation because PF is crowded. You've got 2 offensive weapons in Scola and Landry and defensive specialist in Hayes.
Good point. I really don't care where Harris is on the depth chart. I just want to get rid of Head. Harris is cheaper so moving Head's contract for a pick/exception would help toward getting under the LT.
Point Guards: 3 Rafer Alston Steve Francis Aaron Brooks Shooting Guards: 3 Tracy McGrady Brent Barry Von Wafer Small Forwards: 3 Ron Artest Shane Battier Mike Harris / Carl Landry Power Forwards: 2 Luis Scola Carl Landry^ / Mike Harris^ Joey Dorsey Centers: 2 Yao Ming Joey Dorsey^ Dikembe Mutombo (Playoffs) Roster = 13 DJ Strawberry - Will be cut if he doesn't outperform Von Wafer. Wafer is definitely making the roster. He has shown pure aggressiveness so far. Luther Head - Traded for a 2nd round pick. KTHXBAI. :>
i like wafer hes more aggressive then dj but why not wait and see what we can do until december and what if instead of signing deke we signed ZO? i mean i think zo could give us a little more offense and hes moderate at defense. Thats only if we can pry him the heat and if they arent contenders by then im sure we can get Zo.
