hotballa, with all due respect, I don't think you can compare the two. Scola is a huge upgrade over Howard already. If Juwan played Scola's minutes in the 2nd game at Utah, the Rockets probably lose that game.

Juwan is not a reliable low post option.

Juwan hurts any team he plays on. And I'm not saying that because I dislike him as an individual. Scola has shown he is more physical than Juwan, rebounds better than Juwan, even plays better D than Juwan. The Rockets finally have, not 1, but 2 PFs that are bruisers.

Juwan has the edge on the perimeter jumper (and ft %), but the Rockets don't need those things out of their 4. Otis Thorpe was not a good perimeter shooter or a good free-throw shooter, and that turned out just fine for the Rockets.

I think you have to compare the two though. They were/are the first big man options off the bench. Scola's a better rebounder, true but he isn't a better rebounder than Juwan is a better scorer. Juwan also has some low post moves, which I've yet to see from Scola. He pretty much saved our bacon in terms of low post scoring when Yao went down last year. I'm not sure if Scola would be able to do that for us this year.

With regards to your last point about the jumper, I have to say that I do think the Rockets need that because teams will double off Scola on Yao and he needs to hit those open jumpers when Yao dishes it back out. Otis also had Cassell, Horry, and Max playing with him. Currently we don't have other guys who can shoot like that so when you're open, you're gonna have to hit that shot.

We are a much better team this year talentwise. Our second team has extended leads or whittled into deficits the first team creates. Sorry to say, but

    James
    Head
    Wells
    Scola
    Deke

    is better than

    Lucas
    Head
    Snyder
    Howard
    Deke

    Then you have Snyder/Francis > VSpan/Novak

Folks, it really does come down to good(not great) shooters missing wide open looks. It WILL come around.

    y'all need to relax.

scola is taking A LOT of time to adjust and that's fine.

our players apparently aren't as smart as i thought to pick up the offense b/c we still depend on Js and not cuts and that will change.

i believe in adelman. this offense is not his yet. he's very pissed at the way our offense is going right now.

    so RELAX.

People give the coach too much credit for the offense. The offense in the NBA is dictated by the talent on the floor much more than the system or the coach. Adelman's "system" has not been implemented efficiently yet.

These doomsday threads are getting depressing....

Also, whoever said JHO is a better option than Scola is wrong, EVEN with Scola sucking it up. JHO a legit low post threat????? Serious??

of course they are better. Howard/scola is the only position you could even have a reasonable debate

Tanlent wise...it depends on how you define TALENT, if you count the talent that has not been utilized, then yes maybe we are much better than last year.
    Bonzi:sure upgraded
Scola:no matter how poor he is doing now, he is a true Spanish league MVP/American Cup MVP and his ability/talent should not be doubted.
MJ:well, I honestly expect more from him but due to the fact he was quite unstable last 2 years, just hope he can live up to his job(stop shooting 15+,plz :( )
SF:Our treasure/cancer, depends on how RA will do with him, if his talent is utilized,we may really win a title ;)

we gained scola, james, francis AND bonzi and only lost juwanaman Howard.

If we can stay healthy and get some minutes from steve, yes I said it, we will be fine.

He shot 45% from 3/5 (Yao's return) to season's end. Anyone close to shooting that percentage right now?

    Ofcourse we are.
It's just we got to slow start, nothing to worry about, until January adaption progress is there.
I'm sure we will have unbeliavable games right after the New year if health serves us well.

YES, This year is much better than last year.
Mike James is a little better than Head. MJ can create hisown shot.
Scott may be a little worse than J.H. right now.
But Bonzi is an extra. and T-Mac is way better now.
I believe the coaches are the difference. I will prefer to JVG for sure. But give RA some times to see if he can develop a team. Right now Rockets are not much a team.

The only guys on our team right now that would start on other teams would be Bonzi, T-Mac, Yao, and Battier. James is playing back at the level he was playing at with the T-Wolves. Alston is pretty much the same if not worse than last year? Hayes can rebound but scoring HAH. The rest of em..rookies and 2nd tier role players and rookies. Scola hasn't shown anything yet. Francis - No burn on the floor yet but ya gotta wonder if he's got anything left in the tank.

Yes we are more talented on paper, but that doesn't matter. Case in point - Bonzi Wells last year was part of our team on paper, but made no impact at all.

Francis has yet to make any impact.

Scola has been a near zero, constantly getting into foul trouble.

    Mike James has been horrific.

And Luther Head has far regressed from last year.

The only real gain we've made is Bonzi Wells.

So far, out of the Scola/James/Wells/Francis squadron, only Wells has made any real positive impact this season. These guys were the reason we were touted so heavily and we only have 1/4 of them playing decently. So though I agree that we are a better team talent wise on PAPER, we haven't really shown anything on the court.
