Mathews is a restricted free agent in 2022; with a qualifying offer $1,576,305 for next season (2022-23)

I think House has been worth his contract, and he was signed to play with Harden, Mathews looks to be mentally tougher than House and know his strengths, if he keeps it up the Rox will reward him.

I love this kid. Great size, good shooting stroke and a good active defender.....how he landed with the rockets is beyond me. But I love his game.

 

He had a clunker of a first 3 quarters tonight ..... then went off.


He and Tate are the kinda players I like to watch over the course of several years .... hope they can both stick around as Rockets.

I find it curious that the team is leaving Jalen Green on the bench with no timetable to return and no real explanation of the injury ... but I believe the play of Mathews in place of Green plays a big part of that. Silas can't bring him back and play his 27% shooting no defense playing prima donna ass over dudes like Mathews & Brooks who bring it every night.

I hope Green is watching tape of Mathews on both ends of the court - that's how a player hungry to stick in the league plays on every possession , we haven't seen any of that hunger from Green.

 

Given that this is the best era for shooting, should be in the mix for Alltime shooters.

He is on a two way.

The team has no open roster spots to sign him to a real NBA contract until they make a trade that sends out one more player than it takes in. They have 15 standard NBA contacts and 2 two ways - Mathews & Daishen Nix.


Hopefully one of House , EG or Augustin will be moved after the December moratorium and they can lock him up on a deal similar to Brooks.

 

The choice is simple. Waive house. We need a back up PG and EG will probably fetch max value at the trade deadline (crossing my fingers his health holds up).

We have our MLE still so we should be able to lock in Matthews to a decent deal.
