That would make no sense. They just dumped Gasol who is the same age as Scola I believe. By young talent, they mean anyone under 22 years of age. It would be more realistic if they ask for Landry since he is younger and has shown just as much potential. But I am not sure if we can allow Landry to be traded since he is our 1B option at the PF spot.
Landry should be looked as a trade asset. If he can get the Rockets a Kurt Thomas or Ron Artest the Rockets have to make that. Rockets next year as they are now would be: Alston Brooks (open) McGrady Head James Battier (open) (open) Hayes Scola (open) Yao (open) (open) As they are Rockets team salary will be about. Add Francis & Novak's options and it's nearer $67-68M. The luxury tax threshold will be around $70M. We've got to remember Landry's agent made some noise in pre-season during contract talks and won out against Morey. Also bigs tend to be overpaid in this league. Rockets are $1.5M over LT this season and all trade talk has been on ditching salary. Morey recently mentioned they tried to work a deal for Damon Stoudamire where they included cash so the Grizzlies would take on more salary.
Have a team option on Landry for 717k next year. Rockets would be sstupid to give him up because of what he has shown he could become. Maybe for Artest because he can mark the Kobe's etc. and be a good thrid option offensively. Even then I say no because no one will give up enough for Landry's value right now.
i believe it would. the only way to get money off the cap is to wait until contracts expire, or to trade them for trade exceptions.
there are penalties for cutting people. The way I understand it its not all the salary in some cases but a good portion and still in some cases all. It probably wouldn't work or it would have been done. I'm pretty sure there's a rule that if you waive and the guys picked up by someone else you're free.
Landry for Kurt Thomas would be idiotic. In a deal for Artest, maybe, although he will be a FA after this year. I would need assurance that he would re-sign. Landry is our future at PF. Scola will be energy off the bench, aka Ginobili.
On NBA.com it says that Mike Miller is a Guard/Forward? Anyways, the trade machine says this will work: Memphis gets: Alston Wells Head Rockets get: Miller So I guess the lineup would be: PG Brooks SG Miller SF TMac PF Scola C Yao Still have Battier/Hayes for defense.
Remind me again why the Griz want Rafer and Luther when they have M.Conley, Jarvis C., K.Lowery for PGs already? Didnt they just buyout Damon Stoudamire b/c they couldnt give the guy any playing time at the point. Hmmmm, some people just dont make much sense. However, I do love the idea of getting Miller, but it wont be that package you mentioned.
just a thought... the lakers traded a large ending contract for pau gasol... there is another large ending contract out there that the rockets can get and move for a star player. jason williams. $9M coming off the cap this summer. the heat are looking to add some depth rather than another max contract. remember the rumors that the grizz were interested in wiliams contract. the heat didn't jump on the gasol deal, but the lakers did. lets give the heat what they are looking for--depth. we'll take and move the ending contract for a star player. MIAMI gets: shane, rafer, novak SACRAMENTO gets: jwilliams HOUSTON gets: bibby the follow up trades should be: MEMPHIS gets: bonzi, snyder, steve, cash for steve's buyout. HOUSTON gets: miller LAL gets: james HOUSTON gets: radmanovic yao-hayes-deke scola-landry tmac-radmanovic miller-head bibby-brooks-vet signing gundy ball out. 100+ppg in! of course...this will never happen. but it's nice to imagine.
why didn't this trade ever happen but what is really sad is we should have never been in the situation of having to try and make a trade happen for richard jefferson. http://shoutfan.com/2007/06/13/houston-rockets-may-trade-for-richard-jefferson/ The Rockets are rumored to be seeking Richard Jefferson from the Nets. A perfect price match-up would be Juwan Howard for Jefferson straight up, but we all know Jefferson is a more dynamic player and the Nets will not fall for it. what in the hell were our scouts scouting for them to be missing in the draft every year? richard jefferson, Rudy Gay, rashard lewis(by the way lewis was missed 3 times that year). We are all ways saying how we aren't athletic well looks like we could have been. carrol dawson's scout team and advice team should have been fired long time ago. the only players on our team that has been there from the begining (meaning draft is yao) we did not draft steve morey's guys did pretty good this year but dawson's people SUCKED. oh yeah playoffs here we come and long as we are healthy we will be a threat
actually...how about a three way trade between us, the Grizz, and the Kings. Memphis trades Miller Navarro Cardinal Recieves Francis James Head Snyder protected 1st round pick Houston Kings trade Artest Recieve Miller future 2nd from Houston Rockets trade Francis James Head Snyder Protected 1st and Future 2nd Recieve Cardinal Navarro Artest We get our three point specialist and our dynamic defensive specialist Yao Landry Scola Hayes Artest Battier Tmac Wells Navarro Alston Brooks Navarro -V
There will be trade, albeit a little, tee-tiny trade...but there will be one just before trading deadline.
I think the Rockets should look into adding an atheletic 7-footer to play a PF/C role, they don't grow on trees but this one is presumably availabe via a trade or a possible buy-out signing:
Oh no! Just like Stevie A Smith say's he got bad footings, can't dribble the ball like other big men and he has a smal hands! Makes me feel sad, you know.
