The memo in question obviously surfaced after we drafted Yao but before we traded for Thabeet. Im bettin' Morey got out a tape measure before he agreed to the Thabeet deal. What a moron he must feel like for using a #1 on a guy 7'6" knowing he was going to get injured.

Of course the Mavs are a top-notch team, but Cuban's still a douche. I'm sure anyone outside of the Dallas bubble would agree to that.

I was rooting for the Mavs against the Lakers. Now, I want them to crumble in a pitiful manner.

Considering how consistent Yao played for his first three years, I think a lot of people were very surprised and relieved.

But of course, I guess we should have all been be super cynics like you from the beginning.

Again, 90.7 million dollar payroll. 2nd only to LA's 91.6. He's like Snyder in the NFL, only he eventually found a winning combination.

After seeing Miami celebrate with 1 minute left in OT, it really makes you respect Dallas' class/dignity more (they way they have handled sweeping the two-time defending champs, coming back big to go up 3-1 on the Thunder, it was nowhere near the celebrations of Miami against Boston and Chicago). Any of you guys who are pretending that they are not a classy organization are either living in some dream world or not watching basketball. It is difficult not to hope that they win it in this postseason.

Before you start with the eye-rolling thing...you might want to do a history check as to which GM drafted Yao. :p

Then again, if you're really into the eye-rolling thing, maybe Morey "banking" multiple times on both Grady and Yao fully recovering from their injuries....

now that's worthy of one. Here you go...

Yes, I miss worded the sentence concerning Yao's draft.

But I think your missing the intended meaning of my post.

What I was really trying to say is that Yao wasnt an instant injury risk at the time of his drafting. This was in response to a earlier poster that was implying that anyone his size WAS a injury risk automatically. My statement was meant to show sarcasm in that how foolish we were to draft someone that would definitely get injured...NOT. No, no one would have drafted him that high knowing that ahead of time, and to imply that we should have would have necessitated clairvoyance.

As far as Morey banking on McGrady and Yao, that was a gamble, surely. But our alternatives were few. If we had attempted to trade them (once they both suffered their initial injuries), we would not have gotten anywhere near equal talent in return. Not to mention that Houston fans would have had a fit of epic proportions if we had given up on Yao early. The guy was too well liked and bringing too much spotlight to Houston to do anything but hope that he could return to form.

All of this was in response to some implying that Dallas was a better run organization based purely on their success record. While I totally admit they have been successful, and that they ARE a quality organization, I pointed out that if Dirk and Terry had gotten the injury bug, and Yao and McGrady had not, that Houston would have been the success story and Dallas would have looked like the failed or lesser one.

good post. my point exactly. Some teams are fortunate about injuries ,and some are not.. part of life.. look at portland they would be better as well.

But in review of the actual facts, dallas has had good fortune with nowitzki. Bottom line is if nowitzski hadnt panned out they the mavs would be nothing. It has nothing to do with acquisitions are magic wand cuban and everything to do with getting lucky on a #9 pick. and it wasn't even cuban that wanted him it was more don nelson.

Despite all the great owner this and great owner that of cuban the reality is this 'great owner' traded away a player due to cheapness that went on to win 2 MVPS. Also traded players that went on to become all stars in harris and jamison. He did this with 3 different players. How many did les alexander trade away that became all stars or MVPs? 0.

Can we please stop with the myth that cuban is anything more than fortunate that a #9 pick turned out to be a good player. Give me a team of terry, kidd, stoyavic, marion and no nowitzski and that team wouldnt even make the playoffs.

Not sure why people go on and on about cuban when he has proven less than les, and done less than les yet it's somehow les fault that we went after a premier player in mcgrady that ended up getting injured?? and how is is les fault that ming got injured??

The level of stupidity over cuban has reached epic proportions around here.

My question to Cuban is how do you now already have a ring with a player like Dirk on your team. Too bad the Heat are going to win it this year. Sorry Dallas. At the end of the day Cuban I will speculate will still have no rings and the mavs still no championship banner. Bad contracts and overspending cost him back in 06 as well as a epic choke job. Little too old and a little to slow now to beat the Heat in my opinion. Dallas had a nice run but their window is going to close soon. If T-mac and Yao stayed healthy no telling what kind of damage the rockets could of done. Morey really got some nice roll players around them. Its a shame they both couldn't stay on the court. Hell we took LA seven games with out T-MAC and Yao got injured during the series. I still think the rockets have better upper mgmt and ownership than the mavs and I will stick to that. I'll give Cuban credit though. As hes gotten older he has figuring things out and been making some good moves but its just a little too late in Dirks career.
