Mario Elie made the Spurs team a tougher team.

We're not following the path of the spurs simply because the Spurs had almost a decade to build around Duncan. We're not built around Yao Ming anymore..how can we be built around a guy who's been injured during playoff time for the last 4 years?

Our team just looks a lot like the other western teams, in fact you can argue we look more like the Lakers than the spurs with the exception of the pg spot:

    coach in control-PJ-RA
    driving/slashing scoring SG-Kobe-Martin
    solid C- Bynum-YM
    really good international PF- Gasol-Scola
    defensive wing combo- Artest/Odom-Battier/Ariza
savy GMs-Kupchak-DM (if you don't think the Lakers are savvy just look at other big spending teams like NY or even Dallas)

Also you seem to ignore the details of what the Spurs did. Duncan is a pf who has been effective since day 1, YM has been injury prone from the time he became dominant. Spurs' ginobili and parker were scouted internationally while Brooks/Landry/Lowry are all drafted locally. More importantly the Spurs thrived off their championships and filled their roster with an ever changing cadre of old guys, while the Rox are stuffed with young developing guys.

Tinman did you just compare Tim Duncan to Yao Ming ?

A guy who has 4 rings
    2 MVPS
    and 12 all defensive teams.

Since Yao hasn't won any of those he shouldn't even be compared to him right ?

I didn't say he was "Tim Duncanesque".
I said they were both big men that both teams were built around.

But I guess you didn't know that the Rockets were built around a Rockets center.

Also, I don't go around insulting Michael Jordan by calling him a loser.

i never said we were on the same timeline as the spurs.

how did we get david andersen? that dude is from australia.

    let me quote myself again.
Some stupid fake fan here interpreted this a comparison.

it's not, it saying that the foundation is the same, we are built around a big guy. big guy can be interpreted many ways, usually the primary post player.

bigs can be power forwards or centers.

for example, cleveland built it's team around a forward.

please quote me where i actually used both players as a comparison of skills and accomplishments.

    i thought so.

While Brooks can resemble somehow to Parker or even get better than him at one point, we have nothing compared to Duncan or Ginobili.
During the Spurs championship years both Ginobili and Duncan were top5 go-to guys in crunch time. Yao isnt and nor is Martin, Ariza or Buddinger.

Yao led team is not going to win a championship folks.

We will need to give him A LOT of help.

    Duncan >>>>>>>>>>> Yao

    Parker >>> Brooks

    Ginobili >>>>>>>>>>>>> Budinger

    Bruce Bowen > Battier

The Spurs never traded Parker, at one point Parker was raw and lacking in many areas of his game. There was the long rumor of Parker for Jason Kidd, the Spurs never did that.

    They were patient.

I believe that's what's going on with Brooks, we are being patient in his development.

The same goes for Rajon Rondo, he's obvious a better player than he was a few years ago.

Again following the path and comparisons of player's skills are different.

following the path to build a car doesn't mean both cars are the same, it just means they are assembled the same way.

Tinman the almighty has the power to call me a "fake" and "stupid" fan I feel so honored.

And as for you saying this isn't a comparison

You just posted our entire roster and there entire roster right next to each other player by player.

How is that not a comparison.

This is a comparison because you believe that we are built similar to the Spur thus comparing the 2.

dude, go to KAPLAN they can help you with your reading comprehension.

    Here's a question for you.

Are the Rockets team built around a big man?

    yes or no

what's the name of the big man?

Are the Spurs built around a big man?

    yes or no

what's the name of that dude?

I know you hate me cause i'm critical of mcgrady, but if you want war on this thread, bring it. I don't back down cause i'm tired and i am a hero.

Are we built around a bigman ?

Debatable when Mcgrady was here some could argue we were built around him I mean if we built our team around Yao is that why our team has failed ?

if we weren't building around a big man, then why the hell did we trade Steve Francis and why did we trade McGrady?

again, failing or success doesn't change that we are built around Yao.

I think they are probably the team we resembled most, at least before Adelman took over - focus on defense.

Big difference ... they have won three championships ... we can't even get to the conference finals. They always challenge in the post season ... we likely won't even make the post season.

If we're going on the same path, than we have A LOT of catching up to do. I see the comparison (although I think "the bench" needs to be mentioned if your comparing two teams) with Yao/Timmy, the international players and staff.

Biggest difference is their fingers are heavy while we had celebration because we passed the 2nd round (yay confetti).
