Waiting For The End of the World The man from the television crawled into the train I wonder who he's gonna stick it in this time Everyone was looking for a little entertainment So they'll probably pull his hands off when they find out his name And then they shut down the power all along the line And we got stuck in the tunnel where no lights shine They got to touchin', all the girls were scared to call out Nobody was saying anything at all We were waiting for the end of the world Waiting for the end of the world waiting for the end of the world Dear Lord, I sincerely hope you're coming 'Cause you really started something Things got back to normal as the train began to roll again We got to the station about 20 minutes later The legendary hitch-hiker says that he knows where it's at Now he'd like to go to Spain or somewhere like that With his two-tone Bible and his funny cigarettes His suntan lotion and his castanets He was waiting for the end of the world Waiting for the end of the world Waiting for the end of the world Dear Lord, I sincerely hope you're coming 'Cause you really started something And then the bride, the groom, the congregation and the priest All got onto the train when we were three stations east, yeah Hiding from a scandal in the national press They had been trying to get married since they stole the wedding dress You may see them drowning as you stroll along the beach But don't throw out the lifeline till they're clean out of reach Waiting for the end of the world Waiting for the end of the world - Elvis Costello
Have some faith in the self-repairing power of the earth and the will of the mankind. Oh crap...yes we are doomed.
I survived Harris Hall in college. All it takes to survive without AC is copious amounts of cheap liquor & tasty bud. Lots of hardcore animalistic sex with the chicks in the dorm next door helps as well.
naa.. . just kids today are a bit softer because of Technology but also because they Dr Spock-ness that took Discipline and order out of schools No Discipline .. no recess . .no one wins or losses. . . etc Kids have more right and privileges than ever they also have less accountability or responsibility than ever I think this tends to make kids softer Rocket River
Except you . . .you going to a place It will be lik BIG BROTHER and it will be YOU ,D&D twins, Dick Chaney and George Bush . . and you can never leave! Rocket river
I used to believe kids today suffer from the video games physically but now I don't as much. as much as technology has increased, you also have all these new sports leagues kids can join, hence the term "soccer mom". where I do think kids suffer with technology is video games have taken all the imgination out of kids' lives. every fantasy you could dream of is already packaged in a video game. I don't know if this affects learning down the line or not but there is value to kids playing outdoors making up games themselves.
Growing up, we used to get a stick and pretend it was an M1 Garand, or a Thompson submachine gun, and play WWII. Didn't need a plastic toy, because we used our imaginations. Many of my neighbors didn't have AC, not when I was young. I remember it being a big deal when a friend's parents bought one for their living room. Being lucky, my father had a big window unit in my bedroom that "cooled" most of the house. To this day, I have a hard time sleeping if it is quiet or it's hot. If it's both, forget it. Yes, we played WWII, taking turns being "good guys" and "bad guys," with very un-PC names for the bad guys. After all, it was one of the two seminal events in the lives of our parents. One of the questions always asked when you met a new kid? What did their daddy do during the war. The other seminal event being the Great Depression. In 1929, the possibility of the Great Depression was as real as science fiction. That there could be a world war, again, which would blow away the World War that ended 11 years before, simply didn't seem possible, except to a few. The vast majority of Americans were isolationists, figuring that they could keep out of any possible conflict involving Europe. That worked out well, didn't it? I suspect that weslinder's figures about our continent's population to land ratio, and that of the Western Hemisphere, won't amount to much of a safety net if things truly go south in a big way. Maybe we'll get lucky. Don't count on it. Impeach Bush/Cheney.
i agree, I remember there was a story last high school football season about a kid who was grabbed some guy (an adult) at a football game while cheering (in good nature) and the man turned around and grabbed the kid and set him in his seat. and all these parents were upset at the adult. I couldn't believe that they placed almost no responsibility on the kid.
Are you talking about the 1980 Battlestar Galactica or the current one? IF you're talking the current one use the spoiler as I haven't watched up that far yet.
considering this could be a religious issue (some people don't believe in birth control) its hard to change the values you were raised with. if it were as simple as too many people, i'll help by only having a couple of kids. then you have guys like calvin murphy
The poorer you are the more kids you have. Thus the growth of human population mostly in poor countries. China tries to stop this by forcing one child policy but guess what, oh that is so against human rights! Ya right, when we have 15-20 billion people on earth, human right will be even given a thought.
