That's pretty much every year, there's just not many NFL trades in any given year.

He’d be way too expensive in a trade. I would trade, but without giving up a 1. Giants are gonna want a 1 for him.

    I bet Burns will cost a 2024 1st, a 2024 3rd and a 2025 2nd.

    Would you do the deal?

    Sign Banks to an extension.

    WA/Collins/Wilkins in FA/Burns

Draft Sweat in the 2nd and your DL is as good and deep as any in the NFL.

Look to trade the 4ths to move up into the early 3rd and hope Legette falls to the 3rd.

He won't cost that if no one is willing to pay it. I don't blame him for asking for outrageous compensation because some idiot might give it to them. See DeShaun Watson.

No seller worth his salt begins a negotiation with the least he will take. Nor does a buyer begin negotiations with the most he will pay. Also, the price is fluid until an actual offer is accepted.

With as much negotiation as happens all around us, most are not skilled at it.

That's not an outrageous price to pay for a star level pass rusher. I would still rather have Hunter.

I wasn't clear, I wouldn't do a deal without an extension. I guess Caserio could tag Burns if he had too.

I you tag Burns or extend him, you are essentially paying HIM market price. Therefore, the draft picks are just for ten games remaining this season and perhaps playoffs. But nothing more.
You don't pay both the player and the team for the same value. Just what that party's portion of that value is.

You get him for one year and 10 games if you tag him once and 2 years and 10 games if you tag him twice. That's fair for paying him market price. IMHO, What you really want if you trade for a star level player is to extend him after the trade.

Tha'ts why the market is crazy. People pay both the team and the player full price, ie 2 time value.

To get star level players (Burns is a star level player IMHO) this is common place. You gotta pay for star level players if you dont draft them and star level pass rushers rarely hit the FA market.

    I get this.

This means you aren't going to get a premium player.

It means we should be glad we're HOUSTON and not Cleveland.

I do admit it is different since Watson negotiated two contracts he refuses to honor. He has some savvy advisors informing him on how to continue getting paid while not actually performing.

If a team gets fixated on a second and you think it's too much, suggest a draft pick swap. They get their second and you get the player AND a lower round pick which is equivalent to the value you think the player is worth.

ie HOU 2-50 (400) for Burns and WAS 3-76 (210). WAS get's their second and HOU gets it for the equivalent of 3-80 and retains a rookie contract player as well as ten games of Burns.
