With Yao we may or may not get out the 1st round.

Without Yao we are definitely not getting out the 1st round.

Some people need to read. The OP did say no; he just said the offense was more fluid/fun to watch.
    Howver, useless thread lol.

The answer is who the heck knows. Some people act like they have a crystal ball or somehting. Why don't you tell us what stock to buy tomorrow? Did you ask this question last year around this time?

The point is that you are not alleging "Rockets did fairly well" based on a winning percentage of 65 games in which case I would agree is a sufficient sample size; but the problem is that you are comparing the 65% with 63% and concluding that those two similar percentages represent similar aggregate sample characteristics. To this I can't agree. To maintain a 65% winning percentage in 65 games is far more easier than in 165 games. Now if Yao's out for a couple of years and Rockets squad/coach remain stable, and if Rockets makes a 65% or better performance in all those games without Yao, you can come back for redemption.

As expected, well-known haters are partying together...

I think the 4th Q symptom with Yao can not be solved solely by Yao's own effort, it takes a counter-acting game plan to protect his weakness while utilize his strength to punch opponent right in the face. Unfortunately, so far we still are doing a poor job, Yao either took out by opponents defensive strategy or by his own teammates shooting over him.

Regardless of this, I strongly believe current Rox team with Yao = title contender, without Yao = mediocre team questionable in making playoffs

Thank you, haters wish you a good night :) Hopefully by the end of the season this rox team can prove you wrong~ :)

We're obviously more fun to watch without Yao. He's probably the most boring player in the league.

The problem is that you didn't read my post, you rudely said "use some f'ng logic", and now you're trying to backpedal and distort what I actually posted.

First, I was not assuming "similar aggregate sample characteristics." I explicitly gave an example of how the samples aren't similar -- McGrady missed a greater percentage his games when Yao was playing.

Second, I didn't make any conclusions. I provided the numbers, including the total numbers of wins and losses, season by season. If you don't think the percentages means anything, then fine. As I said -- draw your own conclusions.

Do the same threads pop up year after year or something?? How many are we better without Yao/McGrady threads have been created?? This is a bad question. You take Yao out and play without him and you'll get your answer.

The thread title should not have been "Are we better without Yao?"

It should have been, "How much worse are we without Yao?" That's really what this thread should be about, but people are getting hung up about the thread title.
