bonzi was fat to start the season. but he had 82 games to work himself into shape. tmac was fat coming into the season last yr too.

JVG just didn't like bonzi and bonzi said that. he was fat but got into ok shape to play and contribute.

Bonzi got hurt twice during the season. He was still recovering from the groin thing at training camp. By the time he recovered from injuries, he was fat, and it was April. I even saw him at Burger King after a game, no lie. He threw a party at a strip club the same night we played Washington the day before thanksgiving. Someone else on this bored saw him at House of Pies. He took 2 very hard falls midseason. He's using JVG as an excuse for his idiocy.

JVG was the one who wanted Bonzi from the start. He told season ticket holders he wanted Bonzi and Harpring and 3 quality point guards in July after the draft. I think that thread was started here and closed immediately by Clutch.

sure jvg wanted bonzi. that's why whenever bonzi hears JVG's name by reporters, he only has hate.

my boss was at the breakfast and JVG said it himself. It's a known fact. What do you know? You probably believe Al Gore invented the Internet.

its just not freaking possible for us to be 'as good as we think we are'.

we're essentially the same team that lost 1st round last year + options. the good news? outside of individual players' improvement, we seem to have added the best options in the west.

the bad news? first year coach & HISTORY. if RA keeps the starting five from JVG's tenure, Scola for Chuck a possible change, the head coach's primary challenge is blending the added 'options'. Plus, TMac in particular, but Yao & remaining legacy starters also, don't exactly have a playoff resume' thats inspirational.

preseason? this fan is always hopeful.

First Jason Terry (Rocket Killer) That was the old, old Rocket team with Barry and Sura, last year he have ugly games vs Rafer. Devean George have one good game vs a Injured Rocket (he didnt nothing vs a full Rox Team) and now he is Rocket Killer?

How about Houston have Battier, Head, the only thing Rafer does well is shoot 3's, MikeJ. can shoot from anywhere, and if you going to mention Udrih then I will mention AB0 who is a great outside shooter. And in Adelman sys. weed dont going to shoot that many 3's.

Houston teams always look better on paper. How many times has Les said, "This is the best team EVER assembled?"

Once I see it then I'll actually believe it. But then again, there are some people here who still think JVG is the greatest coach after going nowhere the past 4 years. If you're satisfied with that kind of performance, then I have no reason to complain :)

interesting post. outside of your boss' take, that's somewhat difficult to verify in this medium, any independent proof for this 'known fact'?

i've always suspected that JVG wasn't particularly sold on the Bonzi addition. that, of course, is my opinion. to be sure, Bonzi did himself no favors turning up fat, out of shape and disgruntled.

It's true. I was one of those people. If I were to pick a fantasy team this time last year, I would have just drafted the Rockets. Last year, I thought TMac was the best player in the league and he didn't get the credit he deserved. I thought Yao was greater than hakeem. Heck, I was a fool into being fooled into thinking we would win it all last year. I went to 43 home games. Half of them were boring because we blew other teams out.

Same with the Astros. I remember I drafted ezequiel astacio for my fantasy team. Year after year, I would always say "this is the year". I failed to see the other side of things, and instead only looked at the positives.

2007, however, is different. I called the Astros would finish 2nd to last in their division. I think they did. I didn't watch 1 Astros game on TV all year. And now I'm calling Rockets fail to make it past round 1 again, mostly because I've lost faith in tmac. I'll still watch because I love my Rowdies, and I want to see how we mesh and gel and the new system and all that. But I can pretty much predict the outcome of the season. It's just too unhealthy for me to pour so much into it.

Now that i don't live in houston anymore, i get a better perspective of other teams. That's why I'll be paying close attention to Sacramento, Memphis, Orlando, Boston, Indiana, and Seattle: all teams who aren't expected to do much, yet I think each one has a shot of surprising many. Oh, and I've turned into a Rox fan, meaning Rockies. GO ROCKIES!

First of all, this was way before we got Bonzi. It was in early July. This was when Bonzi was a 40 million dollar player. JVG said he wanted BOnzi, but it was unlikely because of money.

JVG did throw bonzi in there. He played as soon as he was cleared by Keith Jones. Then Bonzi told him "I'll give you 1/4 since I'm getting paid 1/4 of what I deserve." And then Bonzi refused to travel with the team in the preseason. That's not JVG's fault. JVG told him "if you don't want to travel, then stay home", so Bonzi did. Well not exactly at home, he was at house of pies and clubs getting crunk. And then Bonzi saw we had one of the best starts in franchise history so he calls up jvg and says "hey I'm ready". What do you know? Next day, he's in the lineup vs the Lakers and within a week, he's starting! So don't blame JVG for not giving him a chance. Now how did he lose his chance? He fell on his ****** and was out for 2 weeks. Then as soon as he was cleared, JVG put him back in the lineup. JVG even started him one game and Bouncy scored 29 points. But then Bouncy got hurt again in March. And by the time he was ready to come back, we were on our longest winning streak of the year, Yao was back, Snyder was clearly a more effective option than the ****** out of shape Bouncy. So what did Bouncy do? He played golf to keep himself in shape. Ataboy. So JVG gave him one last chance to end the season, and Bouncy's golf training kept him in great shape - not! He sucked major balls, and outright left the team - didn't tell anyone, all he did was leave a text message to Keith Jones saying he's done, good luck in the playoffs.

Everyone hated the ****** on this bored. People were even bashing JVG for playing bonzi instead of Snyder. Bonzi's a bum. He's gotten suspended everywhere he's gone, except Adelman, because Adelman is too soft. Fratello, Dunleavy, Cheeks, McMillan, JVG. That's a good list of coaches right there. And Bonzi was in the doghouse of every single one. Oh, and JVG never suspended him btw. If Bonzi were on Pat Riley's team, he'd be suspended the whole year. Riley suspended Walker and Posey for 2 weeks because of weight problems. Are you kidding me? Posey has nothing on Bouncy!

Look at the psychology of it. Bonzi suffers from the fundamental attribution error. "It's not my fault, it's all their fault". Translation: JVG, Dunleavy, Cheeks, McMillan, Fratello, they're all idiots. I'm a top player in this league, and I deserve top money, and if they don't start me even though I love donuts, then I quit.

And I said this in another thread. I was at Toyota Center the day we signed Bonzi because of a Battier commercial shoot. And Battier had nothing good to say about Bonzi. "We'll see how he works out; if everything goes right, Bonzi will be a great contributor to this team." He played with the ****** in Memphis and new he was a cancer.

I have concerns over two things the most.

    1. Team chemistry, I fear M.J will be the cancer, the chemistry killer, he 'd piss off Tmac again, then Bonzi, stevie... all hell breaks loose.

    2. Training quality and defense intensity. RA is a player coach and all that, but without any PITBULL on the team or coaching staff, I m afraid we will become a too casual and sloppy team.

Yes. Ask clutch or someone. I think Clutch is the one who took the thread down at the time because info like this could leak out to other teams/gms.

Ditto. I was thinking the exact same thing, but this only really applies to the Mavs. Yao/Scola should abuse them down in the paint. For the Spurs, they've got Duncan and the Suns have Amare.

I think we'll do fine, but the Spurs should definitely be the favorites to win, even though we've upgraded greatly.

The bottom line is that we have the potential to be a championship team however unlike other teams such as SA DAL and PHX, we have yet to show we can be. If we can pull everything together than we are defiantly as good as what the board are saying we are however if we dont then i cant see anyhting more than another first round loss.

IMO the biggest question is leadership and experience. Only 3 of our players have gone past the first round. Thats going to be a problem come playoff time. Especially when it comes to the last quarters of crunch games
