According to some of you, getting Dragic will fix all of this smh THIS is what could possibly hurt us from reaching our potential. We have enough talent top to bottom. But our style of play doesn't fit our personel. When the playoffs come around the game will slow down and our offense will stall. Players will stand around while our 2 stars force up shots. I hope the coaching staff notices this and start incorporating more ball movement and backdoor cuts.
Well, the issue with 3's is they're a better shot as catch and shoot than off the dribble for basically everyone but a handful of guys, Dragic is a guy that can shoot them well off the dribble and can also pass. As Goldsberry put it, you need to create 3's, the lakers were preventing backdoor cuts by playing 5 feet off them.
Pretty much this^^ All this talks about the need to score from the post is overated. Spurs over the years won their championship with ball movement and efficiency from the perimeter, not because Duncan's post game. We don't need Dwight or Dmo to be dominant in the posts. It's ball movement that can find easy layups and 3s. All these 3s are just bandaids to cover up warts in our offensive system/personnel. And further proof the Rockets only life line is knocking down 3s, they won one game all season long against winning teams when they shoot below average from 3s, the first game against the Mavs when they shot 32%. But they lost 6 times, nearly half their loses, when the opposing teams shot below their average. GS won 2 of those game on their off-shooting night from long range. What does that mean? It means other teams can rely on other aspects of their game when the 3s aren't falling. The Rockets don't have that luxury. Even if Dwight does come back and dominant in the playoffs, their lifelines still run through from those 3s. And with the addition of Brewer and Smith, two natural poor 3s shooter eating into the pie charts, things look even more gloomy for our Rockets.
Answer this question: How did Dwight hold back the rest of the Rockets players from playing below their expected levels. He went off against Portland because he played like a man amongst boys. Last year, we all said Dwight wasn't going to be the old Dwight in the playoffs. He was better. When he gets healthy, you bet your a** he will be performing well again. Why would I agree with you? Because he has an early season injury? Nope. As of right now, I still trust Dwight and the Rockets organization to do the right thing to get him healthy. His athleticism was improved at the beginning of this year before his injury. If anything, Harden's disinterest when Howard had the post-up was more inhibiting. So 26/13/3 is not a good job? Are we in a parallel universe?
I was under the impression that Morey is an advocate of efficiency, not 3 pt shooting. The most efficient shots are at the free throw line and at the rim. I don't see where Morey has emphasized three point shooting in his acquisition of players. What we've ended up with is a team with 1 perimeter player who is a reliable playmaker. I think it's unlikely that this is Morey's first choice. In fact, he's probably doing everything he can to fix this before the trade deadline. I'd like to see some data on 3 point shots and kick out passes leading to more fast breaks for the other team. What is proven, though, is that 3 point shots lead to more offensive rebounds.
Mike Miller, Shane Battier, James Jones, Ray Allen. A bunch of 3pt shooting role players on a championship team. Clearly Miami did not suffer from having guys whose main job is to jack up 3s. Forget 3s for a second. Just look at the Rockets talent. Who thinks they're the prohibitive favorite to win the title? Let's say the Rockets get a bunch of mid-range shooters instead. Avery Bradley James Harden Tony Allen Jason Smith Dwight Howard Is that now a championship squad?
You live by the 3 you're going to die by the 3. That little powerful phrase been relevant for a long long time now. Hopefully we could prove that theory wrong one day. Defense against elite teams is a big concern for me. Turnovers is always a major concern for this team. And in the playoffs freethrows will be our Achilles heel. Dmo has gotten better but Howard, Smith , Jones and Dorsey are terrible from the line.
We also lack another playmaker/ shooter and are clearly missing the presence of of a healthy Howard on top of all that.
the problem is while the three point shot is more efficient 3point % has a tendency to vary from game to game more than other shots... so we could have a game that we would win because we shot a lot of threes and made a good amount of them but then we will have games where we are horrible and lose because we are settling for 3's
And regular season vs playoffs is a totally different animal. Game gets chippy, alot of double teams, better defense...
