A.Brooks has a couple of 20+ point games and all of the sudden we have too many scorers?

Sheesh... it's only still November, right?

everyone is easy to score because all the defense attention is on howard
as long as the team is winning he will be okay
problem with kobe is he's not passing and the team is losing

The problem seems to be that we think that you have to always be either a scorer or defender.

Most of the players on this team can be legit two way players, maybe not elite but legitimate if they actually worked at it. But far too often we get Patrick Patterson and Chandler Parson type stories were they choose scoring over playing defense and I sort of see Beverly as heading down that path if he isn't careful.

Harden we've seen play very good defense when he gives the effort, Lin while not a lock down defender, has the size and speed to play average with most of the non elite guards in today's NBA and we've seen how well Garcia and Casspi can play defense when pushed into the spot. Really the only guys that can't probably play decent defense on this team would be Aaron Brooks (mostly because of his size but sometimes effort plays into it as well recently) and Motiejunas (based off his performances last season because we really haven't seen a lot of him this season to judge).

It seems we have too much focus on stats rather then a focus on playing the game even when the ball isn't in your hands.

there is such as being too unselfish at the detriment of the team. Rubio for example looks too much for this teammates and this makes the defense's job easier since it will be 1 passer and 4 scorers. They sag off of Rubio and play semi zone.

Guys like Rubio are Rondo and Boris Diaw.

What? No - scoring the ball in entirely the point - and how you win the game.

Defense is not how you win championships, scoring is how you win them, with defensive balance.

This is silly. There's no such thing as too many scorers. The ideal box score is for everyone to have the same points. Spread the shots around, keep the defense on their heels.

The problem with this team is there's not enough defensive players. McHale isn't getting the team to play well on team defense. Therefore, we rely on good man to man defenders like Beverly.

OP actually has a good point. Even at the frantic pace the Rockets play there is only 1.57 shots per minute to go around.

Parsons 0.33 SPM (shots per minute)
    Harden 0.41 SPM
    Howard 0.3 SPM
    Jones 0.32 SPM
    Bev 0.29 SPM

The current starting lineup is taking 1.65 SPM. Lin takes 0.33 SPM. If you substitute Lin for Bev in the starting lineup they are up to 1.69 SPM, a full 0.12 SPM more than is currently available. Not quite enough ball to go around, but no one is going to be starved for shots.

However consider if Kevin Love was in the lineup instead of Jones. Love takes an incredible 0.5 SPM. Fold him into the starting lineup and their SPM goes up to 1.85 SPM a full 0.28 SPM more than is available. Someone in that lineup probably is not going to be happy, most likely Parsons and/or Lin.

Anyway, the current starting lineup for the Rockets does not have an overabundance of shooting, but adding a very high volume shooter would likely not work out well.

Dwight is happier for a couple of a reasons, but this one is the biggest: he is having fun because he likes his teammates, vice versa. on the Lakers he was constantly pressured, and he didn't seem to get along or have a fun vibe. The team was too serious for him. Dwight is still an important part of the team, and Dwight generally is pretty happy, maybe he likes his teammate enough to want to share the ball and just win. Chemistry matters a lot, the teammates around you can change someone. Coaching too.

There's no such thing as too many scorers... And if Howard wants more shots, all he has to do is get his post game together. Simple as that... And if he doesn't, he gets treated no different from Asik on the offensive end...

Of course there is such a thing as to many scorers. Look at my post above. NBA players do not take well to being shot starved for long periods of time. Short term like the Olympics, no problem. But long term you just cannot take an efficient 20 PPG scorer and give him 6 shots per game. Not having enough shots available leads to superstars like Harden being moved to the bench. And it is probably one of the main reasons why McHale is starting Bev over Lin.

Howard needs his shots. The coaching staff is more than happy to give Howard his 0.3 shots per minute. A happy Howard is a defensive nightmare to the opponent.

Dwight has been the happiest guy on the court, I don't think shot attempts matter to Dwight, it's not like he shoots the ball a lot anyway. I think he will be happy as long as we are winning and he gets his touches in the post.

He is a willing passer, and that is the thing that is most underrated about Dwight. Once we get Harden back 100% healthy, the sky is the limit for this team.

Yep people don't realize but Dwight makes the game so much easier for his teammates because all they have to do is spot up and shoot. This is why I laugh when people say Asik has the same impact as Howard.

If Asik was the starter there is no way we would be getting all these open 3pt shots, because there would be no double teams vs Asik.

Bev is starting because of his defense... Harden is always going to get his shots because he has the ball a majority of the time anyway regardless of who's on the court with him.

And there is no such thing as too many scorers... But their could be such a thing as too many stars. The only 20 ppg scorer on this team is Harden. It's players on this team that can score but aren't necessarily big time scorers and or ever had that role. This isn't like an Olympic team. And Howard isn't a big time scorer.

And for Howard to get consistent shots _ he's going to have to get his post game together... Other than that he's a career 10-12 field goal attempts per game guy so he's not an issue.
