The quizzes always put me in liberal libertarian. However, the quizes never ask me if we can afford it which is where I get kind of conservative.
You are a left social libertarian. Left: 6.43, Libertarian: 4.83 Heh, almost equally libertarian Spoiler I guess probably not because, you know libertarian
My result is: You are a center-left moderate social libertarian. Left: 2.93, Libertarian: 3.36 I did not consider myself libertarian really so that's a bit surprising.
There are plenty of Moderates They are in this section called the GARM if you don’t see certain posters from here over there Then for sure they are extremist cable news trolls or Bernie Sanders Fans @Os Trigonum
You are a right social libertarian. Right: 4.96, Libertarian: 7.89 Interesting to have such a high right score. People who know me in everyday life think I'm damn near a commie. I think I have the highest libertarian score. So yay for me being less authoritarian than others.
You are a center-left moderate social libertarian. Left: 2.66, Libertarian: 1.98 I grew very anti war after Iraq.
No I am not surprised. The issue with socialism is that there is no such thing. The workers ultimately have to choose people to make decision and those people seize power anyway resulting in autocratic rule. Then there is the right which just goes directly to autocratic rule. It's a sad state of affairs that anyone else is essentially a libertarian and probably dilutes the meaning of the word. I'm not a proponent of laissez faire capitalism. I think corporations have way too much power and it outweighs the voice of the people. I also think labor unions serve a purpose and they should be reformed vs thrown out. I think everything needs checks and balances - with corporations, with taxes, etc. My ideal structure is one where no interest can gain sufficient power and action is guided by what is beneficial to the long term interests of the nation as a whole. This is a very difficult thing to accomplish objectively, but that's what we need to be striving for. We need a system where representatives are actually serving that goal as opposed to corporate or special interests and rationalizing it as good for all while they make a nice profit from their service. Unfortunately, such a system requires an educated and aware populace which seems to be unattainable. Voters don't have good information and make choices based on the wrong attributes which leads to subpar leadership, corruption, and massive gridlock. Alternatives to this are poor - communism is a failure for the most part outside of China and it only works there because of how homogeneous the people are - and how easy it is to oppress minorities and other voices without resistance. Authoritarians regimes around the world are often a sign of a failed state. We're fighting over stupid things so that the rich and corporate interests can maintain their power. It's truly sad.
related Skeptics Say, ‘Do Your Own Research.’ It’s Not That Simple. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/03/opinion/dyor-do-your-own-research.html excerpt: Instead, our message, in part, is that it’s not enough for experts to have credentials, knowledge and lots of facts. They must show that they are trustworthy and listen seriously to objections from alternative perspectives. We strive to offer careful guidance when it comes to our own areas of expertise. Even so, some D.Y.O.R. enthusiasts may reject our cautions. If they do, we hope that they will nonetheless heed at least one piece of advice: If you are going to do your own research, the research you should do first is on how best to do your own research. more
Yeah, well, it is hard to do your own research in an era where there is an information overload and one doesn't know how to sift through and take in all that information - that's what opens to door to a lot of terrible information that moves people in the wrong direction. People don't trust the "experts" but a large part of that is that it's easy for parties that lose financially because of those experts to run misinformation campaigns to create doubt.
The thing is I believe in small government but I want it involved in the big things like healthcare and civil rights. I also believe in free market but want the government to invest in certain industries and put up guardrails around monopolies and protect consumers more. So I guess I'm a democrat who doesn't want to be free spending like most democrats.
