I don't think there's anything bad about how they match up, they are just a good team when they are clicking. Better than their record.
If the opponent shows how to slow down Harden in 4th quarter, it's not meaningless at all. Spurs' loss was meaningless. This isn't.
Except that if opposing defenses go after Harden(and why wouldn't they?), the Rockets have other weapons to beat them with. Namely CP3 and Gordon. The Thunder's 2 wins over the Rockets this season were when we were missing CP3 on Christmas Day and EG this past weekend. When we were fully loaded, we destroyed them on their home floor. There are only two things that can stop the Rockets from winning it all. Injuries and the Warriors. Well, the Rockets could theoretically beat themselves, but I don't think they'll fall victim to that this season.
Thunder had more to play for the other day, and it seemed they played just about as well as they could have. Furthermore, I think they're the true #3 team in the West when fully engaged.
Any team can become a matchup nightmare when not only are they allowed to manhandle the other team to such an extent that the other team gets techs for complaining about it, but simply breathing on them sends them to the line. Rockets give up 17-18 FTA per game, the Thunder average 23, they got 33.
The Rockets are 1-0 against the Thunder (a blowout win on the road) when they're at full strength. There's no reason to be concerned about OKC.
Fair enough, but the 2 Thunder wins are an incomplete sample with CP3 missing one game and EG missing the other. And the Rockets actually had more players than just those two out for those games. Plus Roberson was healthy for that Christmas Day game.
It doesn't matter if there's "15 guys on the team". It's the "Thunder". Like the Stanford Cardinal, or the Thundering Herd (Marshall), or the Minnesota Wild.
Game starts now. If Thunder win, Rockets have a chance to beat Spurs first round. If Thunder lose, Rockets have a chance to beat Thunder first round.
But the question is how will the Warriors get by the Thunder? No Curry-Westbrook is going to go off!! Cook is going to have his head spinning like the girl on the exorcist. Warriors have trouble with Pacers and Pelicans without Curry
