He HAD to put "as of yet" in there. I think it's his way of playing with us. :D

Nachbar looks to be a better player on offense than Langhi to me.I saw him play against the Blazers in the preseason and was impressed with his ability to get to the basket. He made one 3 pointer but then he missed his next shot and needs to keep on working at it.His midrange shot is impressive but unless he gets fit he will just sit on the bench.

The good Doctor has spoken! Now this thread will be 20 pages long :D

Well it is good that the Rockets feel Nachbar should be severly showcased this summer. Like I said in a previous Nachbar thread, he is not going to get playing time because of his defense but because of his scoring punch. That's his niche on this team and in the NBA. The more "confidence" Nachbar has and the more "agressive" he is the better. This all starts in the summer leagues. The difference in Langhi was that he did not have the confidence and played soft. In NBA games his shot just did not fall, much like Dave Jamerson. They were good practice players but wilted under the pressure of the NBA. We have to hope that with Nachbar's European League experience his confidence will be high and he will be agressive on the court to get his shot and get to the foul line. If he does this he will be a nice contributor. This summer is just the beginning for him to develop these traits against NBA type talent. This summer belongs to Nachbar AND Eddie Griffin. Their improvement this summer will greatly effect this team. In the summer league games they better be the #1 and #2 options on the court at all times and take the most shots.

Doc, you mentioned that Nachbar re-injured his groin after the All Star break. I don't remember hearing that before. Interesting.

And finally, nice comment on Glen Rice. So they are going to ship him out this summer eh? I would rather they do that, then wait until the trading deadline. Let's get the pieces in this summer so we have a full team in training camp.

So from reading Doc's recent posts about player movement it appears that:
    1) The Rockets look to be shipping Rice's expiring contract out this summer
    2) It would not be surprising if Mobley gets moved as well. (Francis to the 2)
    3) Cato seems safe at this moment.
    4) They are not giving up on Griffin unless a HUGE deal is in place.
    5) They have given up on Moochie.
    6) They Rockets are looking to add more veterans, particularly at BOTH guard positions and perhaps another banger PF. And those veterans will be in the regular rotation.

So if the team is planning on developing Boki to play with the ball in his hands that seems like a lot of players on our team that will need the ball, Yao, Francis, Cat, Taylor, Moochie, Griffin (hopefully in the post), and now Nachbar. I was hoping this off-season would be used to help all of our players not named Yao to learn how to play WITHOUT the ball.

I mean, they used all of last summer putting the ball in Eddie's hands and he looked completely lost being the 4th/5th option on the floor this season. Unless Boki has Kukoc-like point-forward skills, I think it would be best if they helped him learn how to play without the ball, running off of screens. Please, just don't turn him into just another one-on-one player.

Nuts to Nachbar. EG needs to step up next season. This has to be THE priority for the Rockets and EG this summer.

The next priority this summer for the Rockets is to figure out an offense that matches the skill set of the players that they are going to keep. Yoa's role in the O needs to be more prominent, taking advantage of his passing and outside game. EG needs to be given a role, which he can develop his skills around.

In addition, I would not mind seeing Avery Johnson is a Rockets uniform next year. He is a pass first, veteran 1 that could mentor Francis.

Bite your tounge! There's no place for that kind of thing in Rudy's offense!

i don't know about having balls in his hand all summer. i do know that all season long he had a different 'tool' in his hands. what else is there to do on the bench? hey, if you can't freestroke on the court, you might as well do it on the bench... :(

I totally agree that this summer should be all about getting EG where he needs to be going into season #3. He, Yao, and Nachbar (and Ebi.....please!!) all need to bulk up and work on aspects of their game. If they are talking about moving Rice that would have to bring in a pretty big name/high salary right? Hopefully that will net us a PG and allow Steve to keep the scoring average he had at the beginning of the season and move Mobes to the bench.

Doc- Any news on Mobley? I would love to see him back on the bench but it sounds more and more like he's gone.

I guess the Phoenix 'system' is crappy too. Maybe Langhi will find a team with a system that caters to his numerous strengths someday.

Why wouldn't he have been given playing time? How did Mobley, Dickerson, Maloney, Francis, Ming, Hawkins, KT, Griffin, Horry, Cassell, etc. all get playing time?

nice post......but Eddie won't be playing in the Summer League I think...it's only for 1st and 2nd year players. :(

Anyways......Eddie gooddangit really needs to step up.

AND NEW JACK!!!!!!!!! You are right. Our players just stand around.......I hope they will change that. Cutting and at least not standing around.......more ball movement......and more movement......and more smoothness.....and more planning......oh well...not gonna happen.

And fast break offense needs improvement.

Eddie Griffin and Bostjan Nachbar will have breakout seasons!

I agree.....I hope the players will realize that they should move more. Although Yao did find guys for open layups an awful lot of times. How did they accomplish this if they were just standing around?

Didn't take long for the defense to catch on and defend that play better. The Rockets rarely ever connected on that play toward the end of the season.

well...at least you read what I said! :)

    Anyways...exaggeration. Hyperboles.

    You know...

    It didn't work that often...

They need more than just that one play.

Why? Do you like our current offense?

I'm fine with it...winning 43 games was pretty good...

But if they want to improve...they need a better system and more set plays and more consistency.

The worst play is where Mobley just uses his jab step and drives right through the lane and everyone is complaining about his arm pushing them away...it's so predictable..but it works nicely.

If by "awful lot" you mean once or twice a game, then you are correct.

Running under the basket after you make an entry pass does not equal a motion offense; especially when that move stopped working in January after teams figured it out.

lol....how many times did Yao make beautiful passes to Eddie or Terence Morris or Posey....and they didn't even know the ball was coming...or they missed an open layup....or couldn't catch the ball...or weren't even looking for the ball..they were just cutting for the heck of it...

    :(

    :)

    Oh well!
