I prefur the rox to do nothing instead of overpay for average talent. You only overpay for top shelf players and Kobe was the only FA like that this year. I belive the rox will be active with trades....I just wonder who???

We have been so focused on a PG we are missing our most pressing needs:

    Interior toughness/ backup to Yao.
Another quality scoring option form the perimeter.

We need a post player who is physical, a rebounder and defender- someone who can back up Yao. (a Cato replacement)

Without this we are going to hurt. If Yao is out of the lineup we will be about as good as the Magic were last year.

We need either a 2 or 3 who can score consistantly. 15-18 pts

Is it Nachbar? That's a big risk.

Someone has to be able to come off the bench and provide TMac some rest and give us a scoring lift.

Someone who we can go to when MoTaylor is ot there.

One thing we had with Steve and Cat was that one of them was on the floor while the other was resting. That way people couldn't just focus on Mo Taylor when the starters were resting.

WE are going to hurt if we have our current players.

We need someone pretty decent to provide some bench scoring.

Ah yes, an excerpt from the rather lengthy Mark Cuban "1000 Excuses for Why We Didn't Resign Steve Nash" web log. It's too bad that he still can't explain why he's paying Shawn Bradley $36 million to watch games from the bench...

Lets face it, there is no big dominating backup center who is gonnna wear the opposing defense down when ming is on the bench. With that said what type of guy do we need? Get some one who can run the court and knock down an occasional jumper. Granted JVG had KT in NY after pat but he really had no one anchoring the middle and its not like the defense hurt. Get a guy who will run the floor and tire their defense out.... that is all we need (cough, cough Stromile Swift) or seriously if they are saving this money for some brilliant future plan use Keon Clark or a similar guy that can be had at a price like that.

The Matt Maloney stuff is kinda humorous but I think in reality his contact was for 7 seasons beginning in 1997 or 1998. Meaning Maloney came off of the books in Rudy's last season or Van Gundy's first season.

Perfect example of how bad the Rockets organization ****ed up - people believe Maloney could be under contract for 8 more years starting today!!!

Ofcourse, I'm joking, as GATER pointed out thoughtfully.

    1. We've added McGrady, Lue, Howard, Gaines.

    2. This is the 1st day of FA signings.

    3. The season doesn't start until Oct. 30

What I'm saying is that we've already made a HUGE change this offseason, that it is still very early in the offseason, and that anything can happen.

Don't forget that the Rockets are very quiet about trades or signings. And that deals usually go down w/o any warning, its usually a good sign when things are quiet on the Rockets front.

We are not set at PF. Howard and Taylor are good backups but they are both soft. This team needs a physical PF that will do the dirty work and grab some boards. This team is going to have a hard time getting rebounds if they go into next season with only Yao, Howard, and Taylor.

You think at the PF position, Howard, MoT, and Spoon will do the job?

Why don't we need a backup center? Who is going to back up Yao? On the roster, the tallest player is at 6-9. We definitely need a backup for Yao since we don't have a presence like Cato anymore. Juwan might try, but I don't think he can do it.

PG, that's where we have to address the FA. All the PGs that we're trying to go after are looking elsewhere. It's all about the $$$.

We might have to go after a Mike James, Kevin Ollie, or someone who we can get as a bargain and who can play the point.

just wait a bit, and let the dust settle. until all the crazy deals are done tommorrow. remember, the TE doesnt expire until sept 30. thats quite a distance away. we need to make smart transactions, not offering a 7 footer the full mle for 6 years because he can chew gum and walk.

I’m worried about the power forward position as well. Especially now that Denver has Kmart, Utah has Boozer, and the Lakers have Odom (if you consider him a 4). We’ll be going against an all-star caliber power forward practically every night.

at this point... we will likely have the 2nd best PF most nights... but we will have the best C and the best SG, and you can't expect to have the best player at every position - every night

I'm a little surprised to call GATER on a contract issue, but Maloney is still on the Rockets' books. His 7 year extension began in the 1998-99 season, meaning it runs through 2004-05 (this upcoming year).

Tom Gugliatta is a big body with good carreer numbers. He is an UFA, why is no one talking about him? I know he was hurt last year but was it a carreer ending injury? Can he play center plus PF?

Unfortunately I have to agree. Howard and MoT's career rebounds per 48 minutes are around 9.6 and 8.8, respectively - pretty consistent with their 03-04 season numbers. You needed at least 11.4 to get into the top 50 in this category last year.

Yao and Cato are both around 13 rebounds per 48. Basically we traded Cato's rebounding for Howard's scoring. So unless we pick up a banger somehow, rebounds will be harder to come by this year.
