We probably shouldn't but we might not even make the salary floor once John Wall expires. Anyone who thinks a big FA is coming is delusional. They all know who owns the team.

What is the point in keeping him if we don't intend to pay him? I'm surprised the poll is so lopsided. The rockets chose not to trade him. Is the plan to hold onto him so he can walk for free?

Everyone hates this idea because they are thinking of it as Wood being the centerpiece of this team. However, if the Rockets keep Wood through the end of his contract, in the summer of 2023 they will own his rights. They could sign two big-time free agents with their new cap space, then they can sign Wood and go over the cap since he is their own free agent. Now you have Wood as the third (or maybe even 4th) best player on your team. Even though Wood has flaws, signing him to a contract this way allows you to sign him as your third best player who is likely better than any other free agent you would have signed if you had you just let Wood go.

The question is: what is big money? Max contract? Then no - at least I hope not. Something a little over 20 million, maybe like what EG is getting now? Yes, I think we are prepared to offer him that. The only question is, will any other team overpay for him and would we be willing to go into a bidding war.

    Exactly!!!
They don't want 4 picks in back to back drafts. And if they were getting low first rounders then those are harder to bundle to move up in the draft too. No reason to have 4 rookies and then add 4 more rookies the following year just so you can please clutchfans

In this fantasy land of yours, the Rockets not only lure 2 marquee free agents, but Tilly also pays the tax to max out Wood? Dude, you must be high af.

He could be deadline deal when his contract ends. Who knows whats up stones agenda. He could be flipped in a big deal in the summer just at the right time.

If im not mistaken he was brought here because James Harden, John wall Cousins might have what it took to make a run with him next to Cousins. It did not happen, Harden quit, and Silas was brought here to manage that team not a rebuilding team. I dont know if he was really suppose to be #1 option for a rebuilding team. ? Was silas here to be rebuild team coach after Harden Quit on them?

Silas was here to Coach James Harden and Westbrook lol

    Who knows anymore.

    Should they, absolutely not.

Will they, from what we've seen probably. The poll is what I think they will do, not what they should.

Yes, it looks like the plan.

    Rockets roster moving forward 22/23:
    1) Porter jr....................Shroder (re-sign)
    2) Jalen Green.............Mathews / Josh Christopher
    3) Tate.........................Kenyon jr
    4) Wood..............Jabari Smith or Banchero or Chet
    5) Sengun....................Garuba / Bruno Fernando (re-sign)

Wall (mentor slash coach) on the trade block again
Eric Gordon (mentor slash coach) on the trade block again

The fans don't want it to happen but did everyone forget Stone offered Dipo that's horrible contract extension? Wood will be offered close to the max and CF will be up in flames. Book it!

The facts are the facts tho, the Rockets have to pay someone to play for the next 5 years or so. And nobody is coming here willingly. So, it will be an overpay, but it won't matter long term. He's just holding down the fort until the team is ready to pop.

How won’t it matter? Even with a mid sized deal that shouldn’t have mattered with Theis it ended up costing the Rockets a solid young specialist player in Brooks in order for Stone to correct his mistake.

Wood isn’t holding down any forts. This team with him as the star player is going to be a bottom 5 team this year. He’s not mentoring anyone, and the dude doesn’t believe in passing the ball. He serves zero purposes for this team unless they think he’s got some great potential nobody else sees to blow up into the next Anthony Davis when he’s nearly 30.

Offering a huge extension to Wood would be grade A stupidity but after what we witnessed the past 72 hours anything is possible with Stone and Ferntits.

We want to be in the bottom 5. Wood serves that purpose perfectly. Somebody has to get paid. Brooks is a nobody. Always has been, and likely always will be, but even worse, he was a nobody on a team going nowhere. The next 5 years are going to be a long practice session with bad players. Get used to it. It won't matter.

You actually don’t have to pay anybody just to pay them. You do what Presti has been doing and you absorb bad contacts for young players and assets. You don’t pay them as free agents.

Unless you think Wood will be a sought after player in the future you don’t pay him. You save that cap space for when Phoenix needs to dump Chris Paul’s contact in 2 years and they’ll pay you a kings ransom to do so or something like that. Your cap space is an asset you use in a rebuild. Eliminating a tool in your arsenal just because Wood is a good tank commander who takes shots and PT away from young players makers no sense.

I sure hope you aren’t right about 5 years. A GM shouldn’t be given that long of a leash when they get a chance to draft in the top 5. If you can’t find something to build around in three consecutive drafts you suck at evaluating talent.

If you don’t believe that you can sign players better than Wood, why wouldn’t you give him the max? You’re admitting he’s the best you can do.

Why would you pay big bucks to a player that does not have a market? Keeping him is a wrong move, nevertheless we keep him not paying big money. It is a different scenario.

Took 3 pages to finally have a real comment!

    oladipo was offered 2 yrs 50, he’s a casual.

I predict a 3 year 150 for Wood and that’s a damn steal. He dribbles. Dunks. Shoots threes. Always in games because he doesn’t play defense to get tired.
