Agree the small lineups that we've run this year have been successful in my opinion but also agree that it's situational. Over an 82-game season I think we win the matchup at center with Sengun on most nights. We just need to be better at putting him and the rest of the team in positions to succeed through a better offensive system. It was way to easy to throw us off by just blitzing our guards. Even when they passed out of traps we didn't seem to have any action after. Thats not a personnel thing that's a scheme thing IMHO.
Adams sets so good screens. I'm mad at Udoka for not playing him more with Jalen Green. But I get it, he wants Adams to free up Amen, Cam, Reed.
Valid points and would love to read that Ringer article (actually surprised I missed it if it was about the Rockets), but I my stance is if you have talents like Jalen and Alpi you don't run away from their strengths, you build a scheme that takes advantage of them and then minimize their weaknesses on the defensive end. I don't feel like we're doing that right now which is what I believe has led some to feel like we don't have an offensive identity. I would love to replace Fred with a bigger 3&D type player and hand the reigns over to Jalen and Amen as the primary ball handlers. In absence of that, with the way Dillon has been playing (and shooting the 3) I would love to minimize Fred's role and give the ball to what should be the future of this offense. Jalen, Alpi, and Amen... with healthy contributions from Jabari and Tari.
Ime will make sure that won't happen while keeping him in prison in the bench. I love that strategy because we win more games without Sengun like we won last night.
Not the article I was thinking of but that Houston team with Garden, Ariza, Eric Gordon revolutionized what the NBA has become. Celtics, Thunder, Warriors and others are showing how it's actually more efficient due to better spacing. https://www.theringer.com/nba/2017/11/9/16626208/nba-houston-rockets-3-pointers-james-harden
I would like to see this current roster with a Walker Kessler type center and change nothing else. Sengun's defensive liabilities, his inability to provide any sort of rim protection are not enough to offset what he provides offensively. This team needs rim protection more than a center who can score and facilitates on offense. Simply put, this team needs a defensive big more so than more offense.
Similar to article I mentioned before. https://shottracker.com/articles/a-3-is-worth-more-than-3-the-value-of-floor-spacing In the regular season the Jokic, Embiid, KAT find less teams with multiple good 3-point shooters. Thus, are favorites to win MVP of regular season. But playoffs are a different story. Would I give Sengun an extension? Yes to have a good regular season record. Would I sit Sengun often during the Playoffs? Yes This is why I stress a good "Lineup of Death" or "Hampton-5" lineup. I've proposed give Sengun the max but be willing to trade him a year or two later. As the big bigs go by way of the dinosaurs...their is always an old fashion Steve Clifford that clings to the ways of old to the very end. Sucker took our D-Howard.
Kessler would definitely make this team much better. Everyone will begin start shooting wide open threes immediately after his arrival because he also brings luck with him. HUSTLE HUSTLE HUSTLE... CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Even though he is struggling, his on / off numbers clearly show that, no, we are not a better team without Sengun. But...that's not the question, is it? The question isn't whether, in a vacuum, we'd be a better team by simply removing Sengun. Next July, Sengun trade cap figure will be 33 mil, and with Brooks' 22 mil as needed, we can basically target whoever we want. So, would we be a better team if we traded Sengun for an incredible piece that potentially fits better? That's a much harder question. Personally, I'd far prefer for this team to grow organically around Sengun and Green. We'll just have to see.
How? Sengun's been trash this year since he got paid. Every criticism I've had for 2 years is now being discussed. Lack of defense, no 3pt shot, Jalen being our best player etc...If anything I was RIGHT. So who's the troll, me or you?
Thanks Champ, great contribution as usual. If we are meant to choose Ime or Sengun, we will choose Ime over him because of it's difficult to find a coaching with this unique mentality: DEFENSE, HUSTLE, HUSTLE, FVV, DILLON FADEAWAY, SUPERSTAR JALEN, HUSTLE HUSTLE, DEFENSE, PACE, HUSTLE, RHYTHM, WIDE OPEN THREES
No, Sengun has not been trash this year. We have been giving up defensive rebounds when Sengun is off the floor. He has some rush in offense but kind of expected because he made so many changes during the offseason. Even when his offense is not clicking, he creates a lot of open shots. The other players cannot knock them down are not Sengun's fault. Of course, Sengun's body language was bad in some games this season from the get go and probably why Ime benched him. I'm more worried about Green than Sengun, as he still has very suspicious handlings. Green can be easily taken out of the game with a little pressure, and I believe more teams will be doing what Warriors did last night. By no mistakes Green's shooting form improves and he starts to read games better results in making better decisions this season. However, he's still too slow processing the game and teams won't let him slowly survey the court. Actually yesterday was a good game because it exposed most of our problems - and it includes Ime's rotation problem. Among all the problems we have, Green's ball-handling issue seems to be the most difficult to resolve.
