Again i say, if we were to trade for Melo, chances are that Nene + another player(contract)will more than likely be included. So, if /when Melo bolts to NY, Nene + other player stays. Also, with Melo, who is to say that we would not make the finals or go all the way? What makes everyone think that it would be another 1st round exit? Seriously.

Whether to rent Carmelo or not depends on the price. I wouldn't pay full price for a rented Melo. On the other hand an expiring contract, a couple of young guys or picks would be reasonable. If Melo insists on heading to the Knicks, I figure you can always recover part of what you paid by having him to an extension and trade to NYK on or about draft day.

Let's suppose we rent Carmelo. Would we be able to offer him more money on the extension in the Summer than another team like the Knicks? In that case, that gives him more motivation to do a sign&trade. But he's not going to agree to if he's getting similar compensation and we try to gut the Knicks roster in the process.

I don't know why people think there is even a chance that we could convince him to sign an extension with us.

I thought the Bosh experience is enough for us to learn the lesson. When a guy is dead set to go to a place, it doesn't really matter how sexy you think you are.

The very definition of contempt for a human being would be if we mortgaged the farm for Melo, didn't make the playoffs and he bolted to NY.

Truth be told, i'm not counting on Melo to sign with us. I fully expect him to bolt for NY immediately after the season. The real prize in a trade with Denver would be Nene. Yeah, Melo could probably get us to the promised land, but after he leaves, Nene will keep us there.

all this talk about Melo potentially coming here is a WASTE of time.

    It's NOT going to happen.

    AND

If it did happen, Morey should be fired, as there's NO way that he'd sign an extension with the Rockets. So why give up all those assets to rent a guy for half a season!

I really hope something happens SOON.. this has dragged on for too long and although I dont think Melo will end up here, part of me wants to have a superstar here along with some other players meaning a decent center ala Nene so we dont end up with nada when Melo goes to Ny, another part of me wishes that Daryl the wizard Morey could somehow gamble and get Melo as a rental try to convince him to stay and get a cp3 or Dhoward to H-town.. sorry I was day dreaming there for a bit

It wopuld make much more sense to deal Martin and Scola to Denver. They have way better talent to give up.

finally, they did something making sense.

I hope Rockets withdraw from the mess too.

I'd tank to the bottom before renting a player whose heart is not here.

Melo and Denver both deserve to be screwed here. Melo has been pretending to insist on NY just to create leverage that he doesn't have (kind of like the black sheriff, Cleavon Little, in Blazing Saddles), and Denver has been making agreements only to go back on them an hour later.

If we trade for Melo, he will come up with some excuse to sign an extension with us. he's not going to walk away from all that money. He's not the total loon he wants us to believe he is.

Still, though, I bet Denver coaxes NJ back to the table, and NJ pays a fraction of what they were going to pay.

I agree. Now maybe Morey can get down to business and get a trade going.

Ok for my opinion this would be good to rent Melo, if he does want an extension in the end of the season do so, but if he doesnt just trade him anyway.

Sleeper team in 'Melo pursuit: Houston. Picks, young players and most of all, sources say, a willingness to do trade w/o Anthony extension.
