This is a case where the media isn't twisted as much as jaded Rockets fans. The media realizes that having a bad season guarantees you absolutely nothing.
Following up Davis with Shabazz would be ideal combo for any franchise. Davis & BB could anchor the defense while Shbazz could be the primary scorer. However, this assumes that they can get the #1 pick in back-to-back years, and, at best, there's a 6% chance of that happening (25% x 25%).
Another great example is the Heat tanking in 2007-2008 season, had the worst season record in the league. And then Chicago won the coin-toss to draft.. wait for it.... Derrick Rose.
Funny how MJ still walks on water for so many guys. MJ is a disgrace in running a franchise. But if he amnesties Corey Maggette, he could have up to, say, $15,000,000 under the cap. Not that his team really spends money. But the Bobcats have a little bit of maneuverability. Charlotte has fallen into such disrepair as a franchise that free agents will give it a wide berth. If he doesn't get the #1 pick (Kentucky Unibrow), he should maybe look to trade that higher pick for players that will make the team better right away and actually excite their fans (er, both of them?)
In fact, putting a young talent in that environment very likely will stunt his development. BTW, Michael Jordan is supposed to want to beat anyone who doubts him.
Im hearing talk that MJ will move them in 3 years to Chicago. Chicago will probably have 2 NBA Teams, its been talked about for some time now in NBA circles( people who know their stuff)
No way stern gives Anthony Davis to the Bobcats. Stern knows that Davis is a very important prospect for the league. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland doesn't win him. It would be another great team for the NBA to market: Anthony Davis and Kyrie. I could also see Portland getting gifted him because of the hardship they've had with Brandon Roy and Greg Oden. Finally, I could see Stern giving him to New Orleans. My hope is that Davis goes to the cavs because I want to see Davis and irving play together. But I am worried that 2 number 1 overalls in a row would look like cheating.
Maybe Stern sends Davis to Nets with the hope that they trade Davis for Howard? Have two pairs of super-friends battling it out in America's biggest market.
Biyombo / Mullens Davis / Thomas Maggette / Novak Lee / Henderson Walker If they amnesty a player I could see them making a run at Beasley or Dragic.
If I were them I'd try to get as much value for Thomas or Magette as possible, and amnesty whichever one if left. If they don't get the #1 pick, I wouldn't be surprised if they take Harrison Barnes. He's a Carolina kid and the Bobcats need a winger.
They've been in the league since 2004, and they've been to the playoffs. You can't use the "young expansion franchise" anymore because they've been around long enough. This is one of the worst teams in history and it shows by their play on the court every night. It's embarrassing.
They might be, but there were other basement teams before them run by dolts. Robert Johnson was a trainwreck as an owner - he never got his head out of the profit-margin reports. He was thrifty in every aspect, and it showed. Terrible scouts, terrible coaching staff, miserable front office. His legacy should be the 2005 draft, when they didn't even attempt to figure out who the best prospects were and blew two lottery picks on Felton/May from the UNC championship team. They literally spent two lottery picks for marketing/sales reasons. They could have had Bynum (or Frye) and Granger. Jordan taking Morrison over Roy was nearly as bad, and Barkley recently talked about how he called him out for the pick, saying that MJ surrounds himself with yesmen instead of guys that can inform him. No wonder Larry Brown quit on them so quick - he was getting things to happen, but Jordan was more interested in cutting payroll. This franchise is begging to be folded. Merging them with the Hornets and moving them to Chicago would have been a good idea, but Tom Benson is going to give the Hornets a fighting chance.
I think if the NBA is to intervene (which they won't) they'd deal with the Maloofs first. Honestly, I think the Bobcats can become a successful team, I think Charlotte is a basketball city, and I think Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo are solid players. I also like Rich Cho, the rest falls on Jordan. I keep hearing about two teams in Chicago though, will Chicago really support two teams? I would imagine most of the city if full of Bulls fans who remember the Jordan era and are experiencing the Rose era. That's tough to compete with.
But that's the whole trick. It starts at the top. How invested is Jordan? His arrogance has been his worst enemy since he first got into FO work. I compare him to Cuban, who walked in to a directionless doormat and transformed the franchise. He wasn't just trying to get lucky in the draft, he wanted to go all out up and down. The locker room. The bench seats. The scouting dept, the 8-deep coaching staff, AA arena, etc. It goes well beyond payroll. It's the owners version of "I want to win" versus "I want to do everything it takes to win"
yes lets move them to another place and then create another expansion team in charlotte and make charlotte the birthplace of really bad expansion teams. If they move the bobcats to somewhere else there needs to be a rule going forward that charlotte is not allowed to have another team.
