Since everybody has taken the chance to pile on, I would like too acknowledge that while there were some problems with your OP, the Astros do quite possibly have the best group of 2nd baseman since we came into the league.

I used all of their average projected WAR for 650 PA to get a nice even number for all.

    65-71 5.1 Joe Morgan
    83-90 4.5 Billy Doran
    92-01 5.3 Craig Biggio
    03-04 4.3 Jeff Kent
    12-14 3.0 Jose Altuve

As you can see that is no group of chumps, I actually undervalued Morgan, I had been led to believe he was good but not great here, but he was pretty damn great and so was Billy Doran.

This is the first year that Tuve has actually been a great player, but if he can keep this up he will only add to the legacy

Any reason you didn't include Biggio in 02 or 05-07? He was our starting 2B in those seasons, too. Or Morgan in 80?

Scratch that, once again I underrate Joe Morgan, he was pretty good in 1980. I'm not quite as on the pulse of the Astros pre-1994.

Biggio was solid in 05, otherwise his last few years he really wasn't good.

If Andujar Cedeno played 2B, then we'd definitely be the best team of all time at second.

Surely defense counts for something? Oh, and Dickie Thon says hi. :)

I think my point stands. The Astros have miraculously sucked at SS. I think Correa has a very good chance of being the best ever with our organization.

It's an interesting discussion, for sure. Outside of guys like Jeter and Tulo, how many shortstops enter the top ten in any offensive category in the league? What is the average for OPS and WAR among shortstops of various eras, and how have Astros shortstops compared?

Defensively, I can tell you that we are far from the worst. Reynolds was pretty good, Thon was *very* good, AE was amazing.

And yeah, I can't wait for Correa either. :)

If Jeff Kent is in the second base discussion, then Tejada has to be in the SS discussion.

Tejada gave us 3.8 WAR over 2 years. The 4 seasons Everett played 100+ games, he gave us a WAR higher than either of Tejada's seasons.

Jeff Kent gave us 6.7 WAR over 2 years.
