Simply not true at all. HDTV is a progression in broadcast technology. It's comparable to DVDs in the sense that DVDs represent a progression from analog recording to digital. High Def is definitely here to stay and in a few years ALL networks will be broadcast solely in high definition.
comparing 386 to a reg def tv? last time I check, people don't sell 386s no more.. you from somewhere which still sells it? higher res? for what, to see whats written on someones shirt? what kind of detail do you want? i just don't think seeing all the warts, freckles, blemishes, acne on someones face is all that..
There's no kinks...just not enough channels. Watching sports on it is a lot better. You can see faces among the crowds, blades of grass, the bumps on the football, etc.... You also notice some celebrities look much older with the increased detail than on standard def. In all honesty, if the game is memorable, it won't matter which set you watched it on. You'll already think you're there. But HD is so sweet that it's hard to switch back. This is a sure upgrade, not a laser disc...
Every little detail of a beautiful woman's nipple? The real gleam in her eye? Yes, I can see the same thing from my sweetie, but if I want anything comparable on a display, you need HD. Of course, I'm just using that as an example.
thats what I'm saying even a very beautiful woman is going to have some sort of blemish or imperfection and you don't wanna see that.. you may want to see her nipple, but do you want to see the hole or the hair on her nipple as well?
http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blcolortelevision.htm In 1940, prior to RCA, CBS researchers led by Peter Goldmark invented a mechanical color television system based on the 1928 designs of John Logie Baird. The FCC authorized CBS's color television technology as the national standard in October of 1950, despite the fact that the system was bulky, flickered, and was not compatible with earlier black and white sets. RCA sued to stop the public broadcasting of CBS based systems. CBS had begun color broadcasting on five East Coast stations in June of 1951. However, at that time 10.5 million black and white televisions (half RCA sets) had been sold to the public and very few color sets. Color television production was halted during the Korean war, with that and the lawsuits, and the sluggish sales, the CBS system failed. u are right, no one has 386s but the 386 is WAY MORE ADVANCED than the stand color CRT. so sad, history is almost repeating itself. who needs color tv? oh by the way, its 2006 not 1951. i'd like my technology a little modern. but thats just me.
Getting an HDTV is not a priority in my life. I will be getting one, probably next year, next summer or something. Maybe even next fall. I have a tv that crapped out on me....Last November. We bought a Sony 46incher in the summer of 1996, and served us for nine years. Now it just sits in the living room. When we feel like it, we will get an HDTV. We currently use a Sony TV that we bought in 2002. We use it in the living room now. I want to get a small TV about 21 inches just to maybe catch some TV on or play the PS3 on, if I decide to use my hard earn money... on it. That is if I decide I really want a PS3 or not. I don't feel like buying **** so it can collect dust. I still don't see where not having an HDTV makes you a cheapskate. If you have the money to have fancy lil' Big rims, a rug bear, a raccoon jacket, down feather pillows, and have all that junk, but no HDTV, doesnt make you cheap. It makes you a moron for having all that crap. But it also doesn't make you a cheapskate. Maybe it's not a priority. I know, I am getting one, but right now, not yet. I don't NEED it NEED it.
i told you some people just hate technology. comparing hdtv to laser disks is comparing TMac to Felipe Lopez. here's the kicker, they hate technology, but when they go to a sports bar, they expect plasmas and HD projections. someone tell the Rockets to get a black and white scoreboard then, have some midget write the score in chalk.
I wanna see every little tiny part! Blemishes? Part of nature. I want to see every blemish Tara Patrick has on Island Fever II, in HD!
Kam, i'm not Jesus and i'm not guaranteeing you will go to heaven. but.. do NOT GET A 21inch TV for playing PS3. PS3=600bucks plus no games. they designed the system SPECIFICALLY to have BETTER GRAPHICS. BETTER GRAPHICS = higher resolution. this goes the same with the computer games. I'm sure if you play QUAKE 3, you dont pick 640x480? or do you? If you can shell out 600bucks plus for a game system, then at LEAST shell out 1000bucks on a TV. for video games now, the systems have been far more powerful than the standard TV display. they require high res to show off its true intent. playing PS3 on a SDTV is like driving a Ferrari through a school zone, playing PS3 on a HDTV is driving a Ferrari on a race track.
DUde, it's just for the bedroom. I'll probably let it collect dust too. I don't need a 60 incher in my bedroom. Instead of pushing a button to miss a jumpshot, I like to actually go out, and miss that wide open jumper.
hahaha Seriously, I'm an HDTV fan...but this is ridiculous. Spending 1000 bucks on a TV is getting more on the ridiculous side if you're in your early 20s (in Kam's case, as well as myself). the 600-800 I'm planning on spending is already pushing it, but it will likely be paid for in part by selling off a PS3. If that doesn't pan out though, I will be purchasing one at the end of the year regardless.
i know sony has stopped making standard def CRTs (1. too expensive to manufacturer, no profits ) i believe the only standard def tvs now have accept HDTV signals, but then convert them to SDTV again. so thats was there at walmart. Everytime I go to Best Buy, I really dont see any Standard TVs, its either projection (CRT projections are now gone in favor of DLPs) and flat pannels (Plasma, LCD). standard TVs will letter box your DVDs, plus it wont allow for upconversion of DVDs or progressive scan (makes picture a little nicer). standard TVs won't allow full resolution of next generation systems (xbox360, ps3s) obviously no hdtv, bluray/hddvd (but these are too bleeding edge, i advise against buying them unless there is a clear winner). you cant hang standard TVs on your wall either.. but you can try
Miguel, 3 year no interest financing. there are plenty of deals out there. I did 2 years no interest. its much cheaper than buying a beemer or a benzo.
You're talking about 'people who have $1000 tables'. Which, in some respects, I guess I agree. Clearly money in that instance isn't a big deal. But do you really think that is the majority of people who don't have some sort of HDTV? I think you are overestimating. I think the majority are folks who don't financially feel it's within reason. And they have every right to make that decision.
so its not really a matter of being cheap but jus personal preference and priorities.. also, are you a salesman in some electronics store? btw, I just realized my tv is hdtv.. i just bought it for the size never really bothered about it being hdtv because didn't think that it's such a big deal..
