You get the best odds with the worst pick not just of getting the number one pick but into a top 3 pick. Why try? Because the players and coaches are still trying to win, they can't help it. That's what they do. But their first goal is to develop players and yes, have a really bad record. The biggest disaster you could have is this team finishing in the lower middle of the pack.
I don't care about being the third-worst team rather than the worst, or a play-in team. The goal is to win a championship long-term, the only way to do that is with superstars typically or multiple borderline all-stars rarely. The only way to get a superstar or MVP player is through the draft or free agency in a super team. The only way to get multiple stars in free agency is to have at least one, see Curry, LeBron, Harden, etc. Forget being mediocre, be terrible or be a contender or champion.
Best odds for the #1 pick is the goal this year. Why feel better about being the third worst team? To each thier own, it's okay to have different opinons.
Rockets during their 20 game losing streak last year -16.7 point differential (dead last…next closest was Cavs at -10.3) -15.6 net rating (dead last) 101.3 offensive rating (dead last) 116.9 defensive rating (27th) Rockets during this current 15 game losing streak -13.7 point differential (dead last) -13.2 net rating (dead last) 95.8 offensive rating (dead last…next worse is OKC at 100.9) 109 defensive rating (20th) so there has been some improvement…credit to the coaching staff
I am still in the afterglow of the 2nd win on Thanksgiving Eve. That said, Rockets should not take the foot off the gas pedal. Worst season of all time. 1. 2012 Charlotte Bobcats 7-59 Winning pct: 10.6%. (shortened NBA season, but % matters.) 2. 1973 Philadelphia 76ers 9-73 Winning pct: 11.0% 3. 2021 Houston Rockets 2-16. Winning pct: 11.1% If my math is correct, losing this upcoming against Charlotte game, a 17th loss 2/(2+17), will yield 10.52%, will officially put us under 2012 NBA worst season winning % of ALL time. In the end, it's the season ending record that matters, but if we're taking temperature, we have a high grade fever. https://www.landofbasketball.com/statistics/worst_seasons.htm Spoiler
Quit bullying the Bobcats, they were historically irrelevant and a new expansion team that lasted not that long.
i would say this rox team is slightly better than the 1992 angolan olympic team that lost 48-116 to the team of dreams.
With our last win, our SRS vaulted up from -11.5 to -10.26, which puts us ahead of these teams all time: 1972-73 Sixers (-11.50) ( 9-73 ) 2013-14 Sixers (-10.66) ( 19-63) We're better than a process sixers team now! 1997-98 Nuggets (-11.74) ( 11-71 ) 1990-91 Nuggets (-10.31) ( 20-62 ) Best team on the list record wise. 1970-71 Cavaliers* (-12.04) ( 15-67 ) 1986-87 Clippers (-11.00) ( 12-70 ) 1999-00 Clippers (-10.73) ( 15-67 ) 1988-89 Heat* (-11.13) ( 15-67 ) 2011-12 Bobcats (-13.96) ( 7-59 ) This year's Magic! -10.38 SRS yet has double our win total. 1992-93 Mavericks (-14.68) (11-71) The worst team by SRS of all time. Honorable Mentions: Last year's OKC thunder held a brutal -10.13 SRS, yet won 22 games. The 1987-88 Clippers were nearly worse than this rockets team in back-to-back years, coming in at -10.24 This team is still horrid, but as Theis gets less minutes and more teams start punting the season towards the end, I think we'll pick up at least 11-12 wins with an SRS above -10.
After doing the impossible, the Rockets are merely a -9.45 SRS team! We're no longer the worst team in franchise history! That honor belongs to the 82-83 Rockets that tanked for Ralph Samson.
