Personally, I'm more embarrassed by Evangelicals. And that's coming from a protestant who went to a Catholic school when the principal (priest) was arrested for soliciting oral sex from a male vice cop in a XXX book store.

rain will never let time stand still
    and memory is a sundial
dreams of the future suckle the reality of yesterday
toxic ravines carved by the flood
chaos rules but democracy is a prescription pill
tiny little faces covered in mud
    walk up cold concrete steps

a hot shower chases away the chill
this new day and another trial
if only there were more to say
nothing left but another day to kill
selfish and mean as a child
    there must be another way
together we will make it good

surely it is a matter of will
to wade gracefully through the darkness
our love was once imperiously loud
the sound is distant but i hear it still
so i have a grand idea
let’s go crash into waves and bask in the sun
    or just smoke another bowl

And at the place where time stands still, one sees lovers kissing in the shadows of buildings, in a frozen embrace that will never let go. The loved one will never take his arms from where they are now, will never give back the bracelet of memories, will never journey afar from his lover, will never place himself in danger of self-sacrifice, will never fail to show his love, will never become jealous, will never fall in love with someone else, will never lose the passion of this instant of time.

Just so you know, that was pretty much the original reason for higher education in this country.

Only if you're embarrassed by Western Civilization as a whole. All of the bureaucratic institutions that separate us from the undeveloped world: administrative, regulatory and values-based government, corporate enterprise and higher education, were started 2,000 years ago with the Church.

dunno, why do us Catholics think that all other denominations of Christianity are half-assed, purgatory destined, know-it-alls, probably not unlike yourself?

didn't your mom ever teach you about if you don't have something nice to say?

well ya see, us Catholics are taught from a very young age to be full of guilt. hence, when the donations basket comes around during mass, people tend to reach pretty deep in hope self-salvation.

on the real though, the catholic church as a boatload of money.

Ye Jacobites by name, give an ear, give an ear,
Ye Jacobites by name, give an ear,
    Ye Jacobites by name,
    Your fautes I will proclaim,
Your doctrines I maun blame, you shall hear.

What is Right, and What is Wrang, by the law, by the law?
What is Right and what is Wrang by the law?
What is Right, and what is Wrang?
A weak arm and a strang,
A short sword, and a lang, for to draw.

What makes heroic strife, famed afar, famed afar?
What makes heroic strife famed afar?
    What makes heroic strife?
    To whet th' assassin's knife,
Or haunt a Parent's life, wi' bluidy war?

Then let your schemes alone, in the state, in the state,
Then let your schemes alone in the state.
    So let your schemes alone,
    Adore the rising sun,
And leave a man undone, to his fate.

It seems like Protestants only grudgingly accept Catholics in the fold of the church anyway, don't really identify with them, and are always tsk-tsking the Catholics anyway. If anything, the scandals and the church politics is a temptation to self-righteousness and to looking down their noses again on the Catholic church, and justifying all over again the Protestant revolution. So, no, I don't think they'd feel so much embarassed as vindicated.

Rashmon, I know you don't like me, but that's poor taste. I guess you're trying to be either cute or funny. Sorry, you achieved neither. Very ugly.

I do not support what Westboro does, and there's no doubt they are truly an embarrassment to Christians.

Good to know you have some cognizance of the repercussions of the things we might say or do. Now take this lesson and apply it henceforth.

I have to ask texxx, why is it when other posters would say the same thing about Catholicism you have attacked them as being leftist anti- Christians, but then you bring up the conversation and reveal that they are indeed an embarrassment to you?

the reason why I ask is because i think the conversation is valid.

it's valid when anyone asks it.

    Shameful thread by BigTexxx.

Texxx, you should be embarrassed by your disrespectful thread. You are a Christian and I expect more from you.

Perhaps it is time for you to consider the substance of your posts prior to hitting the submit button.

You owe us all an apology.
