Why would you buy a 20 year old movie on Blueray? They probably weren't even filming it in high enough quality to tax a DVD player.
Frankly I do not like Blu-Ray. It just does not look natural, way too clear compared to real life. When you look items at multiple planes of depth, not all of them are supposed to be perfectly clear. Plus, most of the movies/tv show I watch are then changed to DIVX/H256/XVID files on my computer/ipod. Perfect clarity like that make be necessary once 3D becomes mainstream, but even then it is not like it would be necessary to update all your old movies into that format.
My point was... it'll happen in the next decade or so. Blu-Ray's are getting bigger and bigger... and any HDTV that has an 1080i output (which are most.. hell my 4-5 year old HDTV when HDTVs first came out can handle blu-rays). I don't think it'll be a problem soon anyways... any of those HDTVs going for about $200-$300 or less can handle blu-rays. For now it's DVD, but in the near future, DVDs will take a backseat to Blu-Rays. Blu-Ray players are cheap also.
20 years ago, it was not recorded in a digital format. Music fanatics love records due to it not having any digital compression. The same ideal applies.
like I said, it was 7 dollars. I still have never opened them either. I am not paying what blue ray is charging for a marginally better picture that I cannot play on my laptop, 360, or most tvs in my house
