That twosome did acquire TMac, so give them that.
Yao's selection was a no-brainer? Sure, no-brainer Dickie Vee and countless others, including BBSers, wanted the Rox to select Jay Wms or almost anyone else, including trading the pick, rather than YM.

Not with the current group of role players, not even with a healthy Ming/TMac combo. This group is horrible, perhaps the worst collection of role players in Rocket's history. And here is food for thought, the same "management" team that put this group together is responsible for next year.

Getting 60 wins has to be like us getting the #1 pick this year, about a 2% probability. That's elite territory reserved for teams that are as deep as the Spurs and Pistons.

No way. You don't go from being a 34-win team, no matter what the excuse, to a 60-win team in one season. Even the best Rockets teams of the 90s couldn't win 60 games, and they were a lot more reliable than this one. We have a lot of question marks right now, so I'm going with low 50s with the upside being in the mid-50s.

My approach to next season will be different than seasons past.
I'll Definately take it one game at a time. Hopefully they stay healthy and make the right choices in the draft and offseason and by the all-star break we'll have a real idea of what kind of team we have.

Exactly. Well said. You need more than 2 superstars to win 60+ games. To do so, you need a deep, talented, reliable supporting cast, a great coach, and a great homecourt. That's all in addition to the superstar(s). The Rockets don't have any of those things.

I don't even see this team getting to the WCF next season, but I sure hope they do. We're going to need at least 2 seasons to become a championship team IMO, especially with Van Gundy at the reigns.

If "if's" and "but's" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas. Seriously DD, you're talking about an entirely new Rockets team there. If they bring back the "gang that can't shoot", then the answer is not only NO but HELL NO!

Swift should be good about 3 slam dunks a game next which, for him, will be an improvement.

Yeah, they are bad I'll give you that but they have to go a long way to be labeled "worst in Rockets history". If you look at some of their teams in the 70's, then you'll know what I mean. And don't forget that this is the same "management" team that the majority of folks here 2 years ago felt that it was a virtual certainty they would assemble the right cast of players around our Yao/TMac core. Well, it's 2 years after the "trade" and they are no closer to being a contending team than they were during the SF3 years. With the Rockets, it's a case of the more things change, the more they remain the same...

I agree with you on the issue with T-Mac and JVG. But don't take 2 wins out of 3 for a reason to support 60 wins. I am actually tired of people saying "we do win 2 out 3 when T and Y are both healthy"----do we win any of the following teams: pistons, spurs, mavs and suns? It is winning these strong teams that really counts.

just speaking generally, we are way too inconsistent a franchise to get 60 on the board.

at our best we win lots of toughies, then drop bunnies like massive turds.

i get mad just thinking about the next time we win at Dallas...then lose at home to Chicago...

That may happen with regularity next season if they get KG and we get more scrubs.
