That was awesome, I was surprised the webcast stream held up as well as it did. They need to announce some additional tour dates ASAP!
Never listened to Arcade Fire before until I saw this album and its pretty damn good. I've listened to it the whole way through five times so far. Good stuff.
Listen to Funeral next. It's what put them on the map and is pretty amazing. I like Neon Bible alright, but it's a distant third in my opinion to Funeral and The Suburbs.
then that puts it fourth for me, if Suburbs is that good, as I like the Arcade Fire EP quite a bit. Sleeping in a Submarine FTW.
Personally I think The Arcade Fire and what they have done is enough to speak of them in terms other than lumping them in with the indie lusual. But I guess thats just me.
Yeah, Dude!....We get!....you want to be the guy who is too cool for Arcade Fire. You probably thought "The Dark Knight" was a ****ty movie, too. Now go back to listening to pigs %@*&, or whatever music you find that is "not too mainstream", because that clearly means something to you.
I'd rank the albums like Funeral- 9.5/10 Neon Bible- 7.5/10 The Suburbs- 8.5/10 (rating scale being like 7-8 being really good, 8-9 being great, 9-10 being masterpiece)
actually..... nah, you're missing the point. I personally don't like Arcade Fire,(and most other 'indie' bands) because they sound bad, not because of their status. I just find humor in the constant 'indie' references to a band that has sold more than 500,000 copies of their debut album and sells out arenas. but indie cred +1 and rep given for pigs %@*& reference. Love those guys.
Word. I agree that 'indie' is the new 'mainstream', but I think Arcade Fire has outgrown that status, and is just 'good music'. Opinion, though. My bad for missing the point. It just seems that you are really trying to get your point across that you are not into said band. You could just not post in this thread.
arcade fire is not your typical good selling popular band. but the quality of music in my eyes was good enough for word of mouth and they sold a decent amount of albums. its really not that difficult to understand at all, why break it down so much and make it so complicated. i mean unless you think this band has more in common with nickelback and bands like that, then more power to you dude.
OK. I'm late to the party, but I finally got a chance to listen to the album in its entirety (although I was the one who posted the HTML5 video here first ). I'm generally not really into the newer "indie" bands, but this album is pretty great. "Sprawl II" was the track that finally broke me. It immediately felt like the first time I heard "Heart of Glass" on the radio as a kid. (I noticed Pitchfork -- MOE'S! -- made the same connection.) The music really evokes varied emotions in me. I suppose I need to check out the rest of their catalog (based on some opinions in this thread).
