Biiiig swing and a miss on your part. I felt the breeze from my office, in fact. I did not say that it was ok to desecrate the Qu'ran. That is not my position. Threatening "holy war" was what I had a problem with. That's what I thought was 400-500 years behind the times. More selective reading on your part. Your credibility is gone.
Y'all can stop worrying. I filed a protest with the local Chinese government and they changed it to something more fitting with American culture and tastes.
Um no, my response was to your hypocrisy. You generalized the entire Arab culture as being "400-500 years behind the times" because they showed outrage over desecration of the Qu'ran. Like it or not, that book is the central symbol of their belief system. I too find the Bin Laden sign distasteful, but for you it is apparently a one way street. You can show outrage over something you find horrific but other cultures cannot. It doesn't work like that. Yes texxx, every single Arab declared "holy war." You're response in this thread isn't very different. "F*** them. Not sure how the Chinese government has allowed the media to publicize 9/11, but it wouldn't shock me if there were some bin Laden supporters there." You're really into generalizations, aren't you? Your credibility was never there to begin with.
We should note that there ARE Muslims in China, and there is a small minority of Muslims all over the world who worship Bin Laden and his misguided Jihad. You can find them in Egypt, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, and heck, even the United States. So while we are absolutely entitled to be mad at the owner of this BBQ Stand, we cannot generalize that anger to apply to the Chinese government or even the Chinese people in general. This is all assuming that this picture is even real.
LOL - at this point you're using the "midnight intruder" technique - blindly swinging at nothing... I never said it was ok to desecrate the Qu'ran. That is not my position, yet you said it was. I called you out, you couldn't back up your wild, slanderous claim. Credibility gone. 'Nuff said.
thacabbage, the post you quoted from bigtexxx does not say that it is ok to desecrate the Koran. Yet, that is what you claimed. Now you are changing your claim to something else.
Everyone is very impressed with your vast knowledge of debate terminology. I said: "I find this distasteful, but you and your brother were the first to say that there was no big deal in desecrating the Quran, something that another culture finds appalling. It just goes to show that different peoples and cultures are offended by different symbols and actions." I don't see how this is so difficult for you to follow. When they responded with outrage over the desecration, you generalized the entire Arab culture as being stuck in the past, obviously implying that the reaction was unwarranted. You then came here and did the exact same thing yourself. It's only convenient that while validating my previous claim, I caught you in another trend of your baseless generalizations and called you out on that too. Now what term would you describe this as?
If I burnt down your house but then said you had no right to be upset about it, doesn't that mean I'm saying it was ok for me to burn down your house?
Your analogy is way off. bigtexxx already explained that his problem was with threatening "holy war" as a reaction to someone desecrating the Koran. Basically, I feel the same way, and I would feel the same way if someone threatened to wage a war against some muslim who would pee on a bible or something like that. The fact that I would think threatening to start a war over this would be 400-500 years behind the times does not mean that I think it is ok to pee on a bible. The quote you posted does not bolster your assertion. I don't know if there are other quotes, but if that is all you have, you should apologize.
I don't think anyone's celebrating Osama, it was a gimick. Also making a song and broadcasting it about a tragic events that killed thousands of Asians is just as bad if not worse (since we are suppose to be a more diverse nation and not as ignorant). These two are "equally comparable". Notice for Kerr's quote I said "lesser extent", not comparable on a equal level. However, they are similar in the fact that an action was used that offends others by the offender without the offender realizing his offensive actions.
OK, everyone ease up please. I have a Bin Laden (Chinese) joke, sort of a dark humor. But before I start, I would like to gauge other's reactions first. Do you want to hear it?
Yeah, as far as the stupidest thing I've ever heard quote, I personally thought I draw a damn good comparison between tsunami song to the BBQ stand.
i dont think its photoshopped. i really dont have a hard time believing that this stuff is out there. its just some street vendor, not like it represents the whole people or anything. next time yall are in monterrey, mexico be sure and stop by TAQUERIA EL TALIBAN. me and my buddy happened by it one eve and just stood there for a couple minutes looking at it. but we both knew that we had to eat the forbidden fruit that was TAQUERIA EL TALIBAN. after eating some greasy tacos there i took this picture of my friend and than we let loose with a fairly loud pre-planned jihad battle cry of LOO-LOO-LOO-LOO that would have made allah himself proud.
No, I don't want to hear it. In fact, I would prefer it if you would play the quiet game, in general. Thx in advance.
I think the facial expression of the guy in the picture is much funnier than the name of the Taqueria. Reminds me of this...
Bigtexxx, still waiting to hear how me comparing tsunami song to the stand is the stupidest thing you've ever heard. I also want to hear the justification of why you think the tsunami song is less stupid than me comparing it to the stand in the picture.
Not surprised at all, seems to be more of an attempt to draw attention to the business (capitalism at its finest) rather than something meant to directly insult Americans. People don't like us much around the world guys, you should get out more (outside the country, that is) if you don't already know that. What did those Mexican soccer fans (or was it Canadians?) chant once, or more, when they played the US soccer team? And those are our neighbors!
