Even if we assume every accusation being made by OP is true, women are better off in Egypt than they were 1 year ago.

You can say it's very similar to the slavery issue in the US. While abolishment of slavery and recognition of racism were celebrated some time ago, these are still strong elements of modern slavery and race discrimination present in the US. In addition, the US has 17% women in government - FYI Tunisia has 27% IIRC. Some would say you need not look back more than 12 months for an example of a developed nation using force against peaceful protests.

The great news is that women are demonstrating for their rights hardcore in Egypt, making all sorts of loud noise which is being heard in Egypt. Some of them are paying the price for making that noise, some will fail, some will succeed. It's no different than any movement in the history of mankind when revolutionary change is taking place.

It's totally uncontroversial, even if the current situation is not a good one. Egypt is shattered right now and rebuilding itself. The only positive out of this thread is highlighting that some people are willing to take an issue that means something to other people and kick it around while it's down just to artificially direct people's attention towards loosely US-relevant propaganda.

Obama or the US government does not care about particular races or groups or religions or anything. They do not strategize in this way. It is purely for profit, nothing more, nothing less. At times, it will be about building relationships, which ultimately lead to profits. There are atrocities which get some publicity, and some which don't, and we all know why. We can phrase in a really obnoxious legal way and make it sound nice, but the fact that for example there is no $$$ in Rwanda made a huge difference in politics.

There are women in the world much worse off than Egypt and with less resistance to development from their government. If you really give a damn about women's rights where they are abused, Egypt is not even in the top 50 worst countries.
