Hamas rules out military support for Iran in any war with Israel

Senior figures say Gaza-based Islamic militants would not launch rockets into Israel at request of Tehran, a key sponsor

whodathunk that bringing down repressive regimes that torture and imprison their own people arbitrarily would contribute to peace?

Maybe they hate the fact that the United States was, and still is, a patron of torture, and human rights violation in the region? Isn't that food for thought?

Title should read "missiles into Israel", my brain can't function optimally on 4 hours of sleep apparently.

Will they continue to fire missiles into Israel of their own volition? While the bit about meeting with Americans and Euros could show some promise, the fact that the goal of said meetings was to tell their story (as opposed to end conflict for example) is less encouraging. It is possible that Hamas simply sees the writing on the wall and knows that whatever marginal military effectiveness they had before, without funding from Iran their only hope is to become purely political.

    Thread title confused me.

But for you to make it seem like Hamas is Amnesty International is beyond laughable.

You have to be Amnesty International to hate human rights violations?

People are willing to kill themselves for the cause. Something tells me it isn't just because, say, deadmau5 is playing music, or Western culture is forbiddingly toxic.

The Muslim Brotherhood was built in Mubarak/el Sedat's prisons. So was Al-Queda, to some degree.

Is it really such a surprise that Hamas would rhetorically join with the Brotherhood against the Syrian regime and step away from Iran? I don't think it is.

Considering Iran is its biggest sponsor, and Syria is one of its' main bases, I'd say yes.

Biting the hand that feeds you isn't particularly wise.

In that sense, maybe. But Hamas' alliance with Syria and Iran doesn't really match the Middle East landscape. They fit better with the Brotherhood and groups like them.

    Exactly, with a slight fix.

A flicker of hope. Did anyone else actually think pre-Arab Spring that Hamas would renounce a chance to fire missiles into Israel? Or take swipes at Syria or Iran?

Looks like a democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood can be a good mentor to extremist movements seeking legitimacy. If this leads groups like Hamas to renounce arms, and believe in the democratic method as a legitimate way to solve their grievances; well, I cannot think of any more of a beautiful legacy for the Arab Spring.
