Many middle easterners are considered Caucasian. She didnt have to lie about her origins to represent Islam or those cultures. I don't think she'd rise up to prominence at her current position if she was truthful but that's how the world works. Yaphet was a really good actor. Guy was Panamanian, West Indian, African and partially from Camaroon. He was also one of my favorite Jew actors as well.
His father was born a Jew, and his mother converted. His father was a really big practitioner and Yaphet continued it the rest of his life. From what I remember, he had some really odd political and social views but at least they were interesting. He ended up living outside the USA, is some island if I remember right. He used to leave money randomly for single mom's when he lived in NYC because he was a big feminist and believed women were better people than men.
