I feel bad for the time and money wasted, but the reaction from some of the politicians is just ridiculous posturing (The Mayor of Boston is demanding the FCC pull Turner Broadcasting's license. They make it sound like the goal of this campaign was to make a bunch of fake bombs to scare the crap out of people. They only charges should be for illegally putting these things up. You have to wonder how it was possible for these things to be up in 10 cities, including Boston, for 2 weeks now and all of the sudden yesterday people start calling them in as being suspicious on the same day. Some people are selling them on ebay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/aqua-teen-hunge...881QQihZ009QQcategoryZ363QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Mooninites-Igni...goryZ363QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I saw this story a couple of days ago...No one knew what there were and the cops were blowing them up...crazy...
that is hilarious. I can't believe that people are demanding for Turner's license to be pulled. They are the ones that couldn't tell a mooninite's picture from a terrorist bomb.
Turner should reimburse the agencies involved and charges should be dropped against the men. It is ridiculous to have the city incur the cost and to pull Turner's broadcast license.
actual video of the team spreading the love around boston: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cGTp8oH_0ig"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cGTp8oH_0ig" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I don't know anything about terrorist bombs, but I would assume they would be more inconspicuous than these.
Oh crap. Just saw a short clip of the two 'suspects' arrested. They made brief statements to the meda. To sum up: 'we want to address the effect of 70's style haircuts on society.' Seriously. They went on for about a minute. Afterwards the reporters kept asking 'why aren't you taking this seriously.' Ok, I get where these guys are coming from. I know what they're trying to do. But considering the intense media attention this is getting, plus getting federal law enforcement involved, all the massive shutdowns, and felony charges to boot? I think the prosecution is going to do their best to make an example out of them now. (Seinfeld finale anyone?) Just shut up and play the game guys, prison time wouldn't be funny.
Can't believe who ever was in charge of this promotion didn't have the foresight to maybe think that something like this would happen. Also can't believe the reaction(s) to it. Just total stupidity all around.
LOL, so while it wasn't a bomb and it wasn't explosive, if it had been explosive and exploded it would have done damage, hence it is bomb-like.
I think it's funny that these were placed in 10 major cities nationwide and Boston is the only one where the people totally freaked out and got their panties in a bunch. If people like that have their way, there will be no such thing as innovative advertising. We will all live in a boring, homogenized society.
I think it is normal to think that people wouldn't mistake the light boards with moon man from ATHF for a terrorist's bomb. I don't think any reasonable person would let that enter into their mind before going ahead with this promotion. Why on earth would they?
If I were these guys I would fight it all the way. I was looking for a "hoax device" law in Massachusetts and it looks like the prosectuion has to prove both intent to cause fear and that the reasonable man would have to assume the device was an "infernal machine", which I think a good defense attorney would be able to get beat one or both.
