Steve Jobs is a douche and so are some of his followers. Giving out free case but still not admitting their screw up and blaming that other phones does the same thing. Watch his followers will immediately switch to a fix version next yr. There's no way they are going to release a fix version in a next couple of months because they will get sue.
Jobs said they won't be able to make enough bumpers in time for everyone that wants a free one so they are actually sourcing other cases from companies and will give you the choice to probably wait for the bumper or get a case made by a company the source them from.
They said more info will be available next week on the website on how to get the free bumpers. People at Engadget are reporting that they already went to the apple store with their receipt for the bumper and they refunded them the money already.

So is it a free bumper or a free case? I guess they'd only be obligated to provide a bumper, since that technically resolves the 'death grip' issue, but I'm holding out hope that they'll provide an actual case for the phone...
It said free bumper or select cases so it sounds like if you want a case there are certain ones they'll give you and not just any of your choosing.
bumpers are not surprising. Nor is the no strings attached refund for customers seriously affected. I still would not be surprised if they quietly 'tweaked' the hardware in the next few months. ....

Not only should they pay for the 'bumper', they should reimburse people for 3rd party cases up to the price of the bumper ($30).

So there's no long term solution? With a cut off date in September, Jobs makes it seem like the problem will be fixed after a certain batch
Well... if they were to fix a certain batch.... they would do a recall for the ones before the new batch after they fix it then... because like he said "we love our customers".
Anybody having issues upgrading to 4.01? I'm reading about people having issues upgrading. I've already screwed up my 3G by upgrading to 4.0 and need this phone to hobble along at least a week before I make a decision on my next phone. I want to upgrade incase 4.01 fixes any speed and random lockup and reboot issues on the 3G in the meantime. There's been a few times I wanted to do like Whoopi in that video and destroy the damn phone, but it's generally been good to me.
my battery is going down much faster after this update. i am already at 55% and i only talked for 5 mins! 2 texts..and used google maps for 5 mins. it's losing battery without me even using it. it has to do with the few bars i am getting everywhere now.
