I don't think it can be done, to the best of my knowledge, OS4 does a baseband upgrade as well... Sorry man. If its any consolation, it flies beautifully on my 3gs
probably an evil plan by apple to offer the OS upgrade on the 21st to the 3G users..who will dl it..then find out it has turned their decent device into a mess...thus making them stand in line on the 24th for the new phone because they will find out there's no going back now to their OS 3.
To be fair they deserve it, their device is more than 3 months old. They should have bought a new iPhone by now.
Or jump on the Droid bandwagon in about 2 weeks... I'm not getting an iPhone 4 until I see what the reviews on the Droid X look like.
I wouldnt wait 5 hours, I have more important things to do. But, I got my iPhone on the day it came out. I got to the store an hour before it opened and I was out of there 15 min after the doors opened. The store had 100 employees working, so it was fast and efficient.
That was my original plan, but I don't know if I can hang onto this now-crappy iPhone 3G that long. lol. The first ones don't come out till the end of the year or so, right?
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...bleshooting-procedures/?utm_source=feedburner 1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important. a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS. b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world. c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand. d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band. e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas. 2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns. 3. Don’t forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band. 4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it. 5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers – DON’T promise a free bumper to customers Apple should just give out the rubber gaurd. I think all ee's have to take EM. I mean you tune your antenna to the wavelength. They had to know this was likely to happen.
I feel like the antenna even might have something to do with it. There has to be some reason that most the stores I've called haven't gotten a shipment after the initial release. I think Apple might be scouring to fix the issue then start shipments. We'll see... As of right now I'm on the Apple Store priority list.
No shipments since initial??? Every store I have contacted around me has received at least 1 shipment after last Thursday's.
i am in a dilemma: 1. switch to verizon for droid x? 2. wait till my contract ends next year for a possible verizon iphone? 3. wait till dec or so for windows 7 phones? i get horrible reception on ATT. if i dont get a couple of dropped calls during each conversation, something's wrong. so as much as i love the iphone i am itching to make a proper phone call. i was going to go back to sprint but the HTC crap has dissapointed yet again. i want to jump to verizon but so far no phone has really caught my eye enough to cancel my contract with ATT. the droid x is looking good but i want to wait for the initial reviews and complaints before i jump. i know the windows 7 software is going to be good but it's probably going to be made by HTC and we know where that's going. as for windows 7,
I honestly think they do this on purpose to build up the hype of the product. I mean... they do have shortages because of the overwhelming amount of people that did buy it in the first week, but I think they could've seen that number of people buying the phone ahead of time. It's a smart ploy... it's the same ploy that Nintendo uses when it sold the Wii.... for almost 2 years, you had to call in ahead of time to see if there was a Wii shipped to your local toy store so you could go get it before it would sell out.
That wouldn't surprise me. I was basically going by what I have read. My friend at Walmart said they can't even order them from Apple, they just get a shipment when they get one. It definitely works, if this is what they are doing.
SUCCESS!!!!! Cousin called me up and a local AT&T dealer called APEX just got a shipment in. Went in several minutes ago and got the last 16 GB model. I'm gonna play with it for a while but I am sure I will be back with questions.
Case is on the way from case mate. I really didn't expect to be getting one so soon otherwise I would have expedited shipping. APEX was selling screen protectors but for $30, no thanks.
Oh yeah, I meant to post this but was in a hurry: They made me switch my data plan from unlimited. CSR I spoke to said they couldn't keep the unlimited plan and I asked to speak to a manager who said the same thing, something about codes not matching and a new data plan having to be chosen. I didn't put up too great of a fight because I wanted the phone but I will be saving about $20/month due to the switch so it's not all bad. Also, is there anyway to get my contact information from my BB to my iPhone or do I have to manually insert everything?
That's BS when I got the phone at Apple they asked me what data plan I wanted and I was like we are already on Unlimited and don't want to change and the girl was like okay no problem and kept me the same. If you can sync your BB contacts to outlook or something like that then you can just sync through iTunes and Outlook. http://www.rickysays.com/copy-contacts-from-blackberry-to-iphone
