OK, so the release date is still June 24th, right? I had a colleague come in and say they delayed it until July 14 but I think he was mistaken and talking about backorder dates or something similar.
The design is worth the wait with the added savings in battery. The services enabled for multitasking look pretty inclusive of everything you'd want. VOIP will work, Pandora and other music streaming apps will work, backgrounded downloading will work, push and local alerts will work. What else is needed? Remember, you're dealing with a device that has a few hours worth of useful network time on its battery, and the battery only lasts 400 hundred recharge cycles. This for a phone that should last a weekend on one charge. Not an easy task. Kudos to Apple for sticking to the big picture and not rushing half-baked features to market.
Most of the bigger programs have been adding functionality quickly and getting approved. It's going to take a bit as other said but they will catch up real quick. Here is a nice list of programs on Engadget that they keep updating with changes to the 4.0 software. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/ios-4-apps-the-best-of-whats-new-and-updated/
Anyone know if I can take my daughters sim card out of her normal phone we have our family share plan and put it in my 1gen iphone and have it work for her. I don't want to pay for the iphone plan and she won't use it for email or web unless she's at a wifi spot (home etc). She's getting my iphone for her birthday instead of a ipod touch and I'm getting a new iphone.
jailbreaking tool is out for 4.0 now. This is the official jailbreaking tool (Pwnage tool 4.0). http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ This should work. Yes, still the 24th. My guess is that people who pre-ordered online get theirs one day early so the activations on iTunes don't get slammed all in one day like they did a couple of years ago for the 3G.
Good stuff was checking out there site for the past few days to see when they would release it. Now I can feel fine upgrading my phone
Well.... yeah for 3G it will work. I was assuming he had a 3Gs. For a 3Gs, the only thing available that works for iOS 4 is the new Pwnage tool 4.0. It's not true multitasking, everyone knew that from the beginning when it was announced. Most of the apps haven't even been updated yet to use with the 4.0 features though.
Engadget's review is up. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/iphone-4-review/ a few bits: Some pics: (Screen looks awesome) Spoiler Spoiler
Gotcha, thanks for the info... Never tried jailbreaking/unlocking but might as well since I'm gonna be selling this thing, well if I can get a white iphone 4 that is.
Yeah most def. It's almost about a $100 difference in selling the thing between a regular locked iPhone and a jailbroken unlocked one.
Seriously... where are the white iPhones? I hate the black ones. Yes, DonnyMost does not care about black iPhones.
well darn it...the iOS 4 is not working with my Acura's ipod connector. now when i plug it in, it just says "not supported." it does charge but doesn't play anything. i guess i have to go back to OS 3. one of the big pros for the iphone vs. the android phones was i could do this but now hmm.
update: after some searching, i came across a thread on a honda forum. a "home + power button reboot" fixed it!!!
Cool, I thought he was mistaken and I told him because he was just going to wait instead of going to get the phone tomorrow. Damn I don't want to wait another week. I think we should know in the next day or so whether there will be shortages right, or do we know now?
