Please do update me. Also, if you can post a link/how-to on the unlocking/jailbreaking you're doing, I'd appreciate it.

Of course this is what I heard from my friend who unlocked his phone and used MyWi. Sorry I should have put that in the original post.

To answer your question earlier, yes, it's probably best to upgrade to 4.0 and jailbreak/unlock it. Do it quickly though before the baseband changes... it's at 5.13.04 when you upgrade to 4.0 and that's unlocked.

here are the instructions for jailbreaking ios4. It's a little complex, but you shouldn't have any problems. (You don't have to download Itunes 9.2 beta as since the official version is already out, but just download the other three things)

As far as unlocking goes, it's much easier than jailbreaking... here are the instructions for that.

Good luck, you can also email me if you have any problems. I just did it on mine with no problems.

I'm thinking in the long haul, there probably will be one. I'm not sure of any caps on the unlimited right now, but I would doubt they put any since it's technically unlimited and you can officially tether with it.

Yup. Just did it on my 3Gs

Are you on a 3G phone? If so, multitasking's not available on 3G phones unless you jailbreak. It is available for 3Gs. As others have said, just double-click the home button.

I couldn't get this to work -- I did everything fine up to the part where the pwnage looks for the IPSW. It never finds it, and it doesn't seem to let me select any manually either. I'm stuck -- any advice?

That because you need to have it update to ios4 on iTunes before you jailbreak it.

No, I did that. I did a complete restore and updated it to iOS4 -- I'm on iOS 4.0 with a modem firmware of 5.13.04..

Yeah, something happened between last week and today that hasn't made it work. I did mine last week and it seemed to work fine but now that I try it, it won't work. I guess you'll have to wait until one comes out. It shouldn't be long though. As far as unlocking goes, when you get Cydia, you can do the same thing as those instructions and you should be able to unlock it fine.

It doesn't matter. The jailbreaking tool isn't working for the iOS itself.

Of course it does. There are a whole bunch of redsnow version out there. If you want to unlock the phone and your phone is 3G, you should NOT be using any redsnow beta at the moment. If you just want to jailbreak it and don't care about unlocking it use this .

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm stuck -- I don't think your link would work for me since I have a 3GS. And I'm on a Mac, FWIW.

I upgraded my 3gs to iOS4 and I think the Multitasking is a sham. Each app has to be specifically developed to allow multitasking. For most of my apps, this feature that I was looking forward to is totall useless. Guess I need to jailbreak again to get true multitasking.

Meh...I'm sure it will happen eventually. Most apps are probably still in the approval stage with their updates.

Or just wait for app creators to get with the program. Android users are having to do that with apps being stored on the SD card, too -- the developer has to add the functionality.
