'Rare' stuff is always out there to be found. Stores order or are alloted units ahead of time for shipping. When I lived in Galveston, finding 'rare' tech was a cinch. Folks down there just have different priorities (read: poor). Got the Wii on launch week at Gamestop, and the iPhone 3G on launch day when there were reports of it selling out everywhere- just walked into the ATT store at 2PM and picked one up, no pre-order. So skip the hipster and suburban areas and find an out of the way place that should have them.
I don't understand how they could have been so "low" on supplies on just the white. It had to have been a product error or something wrong with the white ones that may have caused them to stop production on them and thus making them a low on stock. Even if they are low though, I don't know much longer they can keep them out... they can put the ones they have out their on launch and then take back orders for them when they run out. But, I don't see why they wouldn't sell the ones they already have.
Well I wasn't specifically asking about the white version because I would prefer the black anyway. In fact, the only way I would take the white is if black was delayed for an extended period.
Oh, I see. I guess we'll be able to see on launch on how many actually get sold out. Places like Radio Shack, BB, and Walmart are your best bet though for it on the 30th because I don't think they take back orders... they just sell them when they are in stock unlike Apple and AT&T. Here's someone already in line in a Dallas area Apple Store waiting for his iPhone.... it comes out Thursday. No life? http://techblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2010/06/first-iphone-4-camper-shows-up.html
Well apparently there's a thread on Mac Rumors forum and he posted it in it quite a few times explaining his story. His moniker is Jwagoner http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=310963&page=6
I'm confused...so because of his seizure disorder, he's unemployed and out of school...yet he has $200-$300 to burn on a phone?
I'll give him his props for being dedicated to getting the phone... and because he has so much free time to burn that he can just wait there for a week. But, that's crazy. I mean it's just a phone... Apple's starting to ship orders... http://gizmodo.com/5567982/iphone-4s-are-shipping-now Pretty early IMO. I think they ship from Shanghai though so I think that's why.

For those you who ordered through AT&T online.. this will help you out. http://www.everythingicafe.com/foru...f-the-at-and-t-order-status-screen-68593.html
So I heard the new iphone 4 is going to have a micro sim card? Is this true? What does this mean for people who aren't with att and want the iphone unlocked?
Yes that is true. The iPhone 4 will come with a micro-sim for which AT&T account phone # you ordered it for. For people who aren't AT&T, you can get a micro sim cutter from the internet and cut a t-mobile sim. http://www.cutmysim.com/ That would be one.
Ok, so I'm about list my iPhone 3GS on Craigslist in the next couple of days for a Friday local meet up (planning on exchanging the phone for cash the same day I pick up my iPhone 4). Do I need to unlock and/or jailbreak my 3GS to get maximum cash value for the phone? Or do I just sell as is?
Spoiler It would definitely increase the price if you jail broke it and unlocked it. Unlocking is the tricky part... Baseband 5.12.01 is the one that you won't be able to unlock until sometime later next week (when they release the unlocking mechanism for it). All others before 5.12.01 you should be able to unlock and it's about at least a $100 diff between a regular iPhone and a jailbroken unlocked one right now.
Just got my shipment notification....says phone will arrive on the 23rd... Isn't the iOS 4 update supposed to drop tomorrow?
