I downloaded it for mine. It's really up to you... If you do it now, you'll have to restore it with 4.0 and then restore your previous settings/info with the backup so don't forget to back up if you're going to do it this way. The other thing is that sometimes these releases are corrupt and cause your phone to go slow. So, I mean if you want a taste of it, you can surely go ahead and try it.
I really want the white one, I'll wait through the summer if I have too though I doubt they'll be as shorthanded as they predict. Does apple store have these to play with yet, or do they only put new products out at launch?
i guess i can wait till monday. only 5 more days. See messages from all your accounts in a unified inbox Create custom playlists right on your iPhone. Multitasking -- sort of? Folders for the apps those are probably the major ones I care for.
I'm not too sure if they have them now, but they'll have them for sure on launch day. The white ones IMO will go on sale at launch. But, as most people have already pre-ordered the black online, there might not be as much of a demand for them on launch and you will be able to get one. If for some reason they don't have them at launch, I fully expect them to have it early next month.
There's actually been an unlock released for 4.0, though it's un official. http://www.todaysiphone.com/2010/06/unlock-for-ios-4-now-available-for-iphone-3gs/ For baseband 5.12.01.. it'll be out soon... Be aware though, if you upgrade to 4.0, your baseband gets upgraded to 5.13.04 and you might have to wait longer to jailbreak.
Well then, I think you should be fine. 3G base bands are different... so you should be able to unlock it with that link.
So if I preordered for in-store pickup yesterday, is there still a chance they'll tell me they don't have a phone for me when I show up to the store? I'll be at work all day on the 24th, and was planning on swinging by the Apple store at night, right before they close.
600,000 is crazy. I've got to hand it to Apple and Steve Jobs for putting a product out there that so many people want. It will be fun watching the iPhone vs. Android battle going forward while keeping an eye on RIM to see how relevant they stay and if Microsoft can become relevant in the smart-phone business. I still feel Android will eventually win the numbers battle in coming years because the platform is so open, dynamic, diverse and rapidly evolving. It's just a matter of time. But both platforms will prosper for a very long time.
the droids have many types like blackberries, and also under many carriers. it won't be surprising if they win the numbers battle (blackberries and its varieties combined beat the iphone). iphone will dominate the market for a long time.
I have a feeling that they get the order numbers per store for pickup through their systems since you actually do pick the store. Then you have till the end of the day to pick it up and if not you lose your reservation and it gets ready for mass sale later.
I believe that is the version that developers could get to start working on software for the iPhone 4. Most likely not a final.
Yes there is a chance, but more than likely you should get it. Apple store pre-orders weren't sold out according to reports, so I mean you should be fine according to that. AT&T is the one that's been having the problems. I think it's more than 600,000 if they said that iPhone 4 had a sold 3x as much as 3Gs on launch for 3Gs... but yeah Android will eventually take it because of the fact that it is on so many carriers and so many more phones. I have both of them neck and neck right now. It's really a matter of personal preference and what you use. But, I agree, it'll be fun to watch both go at it in the coming years. If by final you mean just the release being final, yeah. It has everything on there and it runs perfectly fine just like the real one would. The only issue I'm having so far is with the battery life. Not sure if that's due to me or due to the new software.
Blackberries best days are behind them and their market share will continue to shrink. In the consumer arena, they are dead in the water. Enterprise will carry them for a while but the advantage there will narrow to almost nothing (vs iPhones and Android). I think RIM is holding on for dear life and badly needs to launch something that broadens their appeal. Their upcoming new phones and this tablet idea of theirs better gain more traction than the Blackberry Storm or the iPhone and Android will leave them in the dust. Agreed it will take a long while for Android to catch up to Apple in the numbers game but that is a good thing IMO.
Interesting that the battery life has gone down since they say that the way they designed the multi tasking wouldn't drain battery etc.... I would upgrade mine but have too much jail broken stuff at the moment lol rather use that for a bit more before I give it up and upgrade.
The one thing I do hate though is having things open that I don't want or things I used once and probably won't use again for a while. Not sure if that affects anything since it's just a frozen app, but I hate having to go to the multitasking thing and close them. As for the battery, it may just be my phone... but it definitely has been using more battery since 3.1.3. Yeah, they have iOS 4 jailbroken but it's really a hassle right now to upgrade. I lost part of my pictures that I had when I upgraded to 4.0 and it also upgraded my baseband... so unlocking may be tougher when I sell this thingy.
