Posted by Brad McCarty Follow Brad McCarty on twitter on June 15th, 2010 Amid all of the problems today, apparently enough orders managed to go through that all iPhone 4 pre-order units have been sold out. According to Boy Genius Report, if you ordered your phone after 1:30 PM Pacific time, you will receive it between June 25th and July 5th. To those who didn’t manage to get in…better luck next time. We don’t have actual numbers from the sales, but those don’t really matter. What comes to mind here is that both AT&T and Apple should have been more prepared for today. iPhone users have been chomping at the bit for an upgrade, so more should have been available. Then there’s AT&T, who just proved again how irresponsible it is as the sole carrier in the US.
Got one 32gb on the way via Apple.com using IE8. Just ordered, receipt shows that it will arrive the 24th. Maybe the 16gb models sold out...
I had no problem reserving it for in-store pickup on the Apple site. I'm moving to DC tomorrow, and the Clarendon store is at the same stop as my sublet
Picking up my 32gb from Apple Store on Michigan Ave here in Chicago on the 24th...was hoping to avoid the store, but I'll take what I can get.
I pre-ordered mine to the store right next to my work. I will go pick up during lunch time or whenever I can before the days over.
And was able to order another 32gb for my wife, shipped. Receipt shows 24th delivery. Again, I used IE8. Seemed to get way better response than with Firefox. Good luck to the rest of you.
Looks like everyone's orders are going through now. EDIT: I was on Safari in case anyone was wondering.
As many people have said here, the Apple Store seems to be working fine now. I just went through and put some orders for some relatives using Safari.
I tried off an on all day, fighting ATT's website. Twice I had it in my cart (once all the way having my credit card info inputed) and the site crapped out. Both times I log back in and see that it's not in my cart anymore. I downloaded the applestore app. Went through, selected to preorder, gave them my att info which went through, and then was given the option of which phone I wanted. Would never let me select one as it kept giving me an ERROR message. I get home from work to see online that most or all of preorders are all sold out. 6:30 I get an email from ATT telling me that iPhone 4 is available for preorder.... gee, thanks. Now, when i see others are not having issues getting through the site, I log into my account only to see that, instead of upgrade info next to each line of the account, it instead says they are unable to support the request online and gives NO OPTION what-so-ever to upgrade. This is AFTER they sent me an email advertising I could. Applestore.com doesn;t recognize my ATT account info. I guess this is where I just accept it as a sign that I shouldn't get one. LOL!!!
So then, pre-orders are not sold out after all? Or was that just on the AT&T website? Ordered mine off apple.com this morning, but it took until about 5 minutes ago to get the confirmation email.
Just go into an Apple Store and reserve one. That's just the AT&T website. The Apple Store was never sold out and is still continuing to ship orders out so consumers get it on the 24th. Confirmation email coming late might just be a sign that their servers were backed up with orders. You should be fine in getting it on the 24th.
So if I were gonna get one on June 30 I probably won't be able to or is this for people that want it sent to their home?
so are pre-orders via the website sold out? so if i walked into an AT&T store or a best buy could I still pre-order to get it on the 24th? Getting it on the 24th isnt a must for me actually I would just prefer to have it before the july 4th weekend thats all
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Apple-ATampT-get-record-apf-2752107375.html?x=0 NEW YORK (AP) -- Apple Inc. said Wednesday that it and its phone company partners took orders for more than 600,000 iPhone 4s in one day, the highest number it's ever seen. The companies stopped taking orders for shipment by the June 24 launch day in the U.S. The crush of orders sets the scene for long lines and potential chaos at stores when the next version of the iPhone is released. Judging by previous years, shortages could last through the summer. Apple and its partners started taking orders for the iPhone 4 on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier in the U.S., had stopped taking orders, saying it had to focus on fulfilling orders already received. At midday Wednesday, Apple was accepting orders only for black models, and would only guarantee shipment by July 2. The white model was unavailable for order. Dallas-based AT&T said it received 10 times as many pre-launch orders on the first day for the new iPhone model as it did for the previous model last year. AT&T also said it logged more than 13 million visits to a Web page where current customers can check if they're eligible for a subsidized upgrade to the new phone. That number was three times higher than the previous record for upgrade checks. The price of the phone starts at $199. Customers who aren't eligible for upgrades will pay $200 more. Last year, Apple sold more than 1 million units of the new model, the 3GS, in the first three days. It was the most successful debut for a smart phone yet, and Apple struggled to keep it in stock for months. The iPhone 4 will feature a higher-resolution screen, longer battery life, dual cameras and a thinner design than last year's model. Tuesday's ordering was marred by two major problems: Buyers reported problems registering their orders and an apparent glitch in AT&T's website was steering some customers into strangers' accounts. Lines formed in stores as clerks tried to get orders into their systems. "Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties," Apple said in a statement Wednesday. On Gizmodo.com, a technology website, several readers posted stories of trying to log into their AT&T accounts to upgrade to the newest iPhone and being sent instead into strangers' accounts. That could set the stage for identity theft scams such as ordering other products under that person's name. AT&T said it received reports of customers seeing the wrong account information but wasn't able to replicate the problem and was investigating. But the company said the personal information users were seeing in one another's accounts didn't include Social Security numbers, credit card information or detailed call logs. Just last week, AT&T plugged an embarrassing security hole on its website that exposed the e-mail addresses of people who had bought another new Apple product, the iPad. Apple shares rose $6.24, or 2.4 percent, to $265.93 in midday trading. AT&T shares fell 4 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $25.50.
Now it's ships by July 14th. And some people who ordered theirs last night will be getting an email saying theirs will be shipped by the 14th instead of the 24th which is BS. http://gizmodo.com/5565259/iphone-4-delayed-again-now-july-14th You may still be able to via Walmart, Radio Shack, or Best Buy. I would expect AT&T and Apple to be backed up with a lot of orders after launch. I'm not sure about the white iPhone either. I'm thinking it will be available at launch, but I don't see how that will reduce any quota. If I were you, I'd try one of the third-party retailers because they'll be more likely to have it. I honestly didn't expect this big of a hoopla about the iPhone 4. It's crazy. Pre-orders on the AT&T site are sold out as of now. AT&T store has been ****ing up everything in the last 24 hours. Reports about system failures and them taking manual pre-orders but still not inserting them into the system after it came back up are emerging... I would avoid AT&T store for pre-orders. This whole security breach and the fact that people haven't even been charged for their pre-orders is another reason why I would avoid them. Either go to Radio Shack or Best Buy for the pre-order. I also heard that both Best Buy and Radio Shack are giving $20 in credit (gift card) towards accessories when you pre-order the iPhone 4. At Radio Shack you don't even have to put any money down unlike Best Buy ($50 down). I would call your local BB or Radio Shack to see if they are doing the $20 credit thing though. Apple is already back ordered past July 4th and AT&T is just in a toilet right now. EDIT: Oh and iTunes 9.2 is now available. You can also upgrade to iOS 4 via torrent. But in order to upgrade, you have to use iTunes 9.2
