Yeah.. what doesn't make sense to me is why Apple didn't release this with the iPad... It would have been so much easier...
I guess it wasn't fully developed by the time the iPad was announced and they didn't want to flip the script on everything right at launch. They probably wanted people to ease into the transition and save the hype for 4.0 and the next iPhone. It's typical of Apple. If iPhone OS 4 doesn't make major changes to UI and multitasking, I'm probably going Android. Nexus One for AT&T bands just dropped not too long ago so that'll be my next weapon of choice. I'm pretty sure Apple will wow everyone though...
And also, Apple has never released the new iPhone OSes at the time of announcement. They usually announce it, release the dev kits, then roll it out a few months later (June/July). This will mostly be about features and development, but almost certainly not about a release.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Multitasking is a standard now... I'm hoping they have something else in their pocket besides multitasking that will dazzle everyone... I just need something to look forward to right now... I had big expectations for the 3Gs before they announced it.... but if they don't come up with something big here... I'm with you on going Android.

Too risky for someone to do it, they'll get kicked out. The video comes out in a few hours on Apple.com anyway.
Can someone explain how ads were handled before? Seems like an annoyance but I don't use the iphone but I'm curious how this is different from the way it is now.
"We are releasing it for end users for iPhone and iPod touch for users this summer. For the 3GS and iPod touch 3rd gen. And, for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd gen, they will run many things... but there are some things they won't run, like multitasking."
I think Apple controls these Ads now... Apple bought out an Ad company so now they'll control Ads in Free Apps. I think before it was up to the developers to put Ads in their free apps.
That idiot in his youtube ipad myth video explaining multitasking and all is shiated by Apple in his face.
I don't know what Apple's reimbursement model is for developers but if the developers got a cut in putting ads onto their free apps from the sponsors, this is a big blow to the developers IMO.
